Privacy Notice For most of us, living the life of an A-lister in the Hollywood Hills is nothing but a distant pipe dream. But for two lucky individuals, that’s all set to change thanks to none other than Gwyneth Paltrow. Having made her acting debut back in 1989 in the TV film High, Gwyneth has enjoyed a long reign as a member of showbiz royalty. Now she’s opening the doors of her stunning Montecito home to give two ordinary folk a glimpse of what it’s like to live like the rich and famous. Nestled deep in the Californian seaside haven, guests will be able to sleep over at the Oscar-winning actress’ lavish guesthouse, set on the grounds of her sprawling estate.

What’s more, guests may even bump into other famous faces during a morning stroll, with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Jennifer Aniston and Oprah Winfrey as some VINs (very important neighbours). But the best part of it all? The stay won’t cost a penny. The 50-year-old has teamed up with Airbnb on a mission to combat loneliness by offering a free Goop-inspired stay at the “forever home” she purchased for $4.9 million (£3.8 million) back in 2016. The purpose of the stay is to arrive as strangers, but hopefully leave as friends. “Airbnb had the brilliant idea of doing something to make the world a little less lonely – that’s why I’m inviting you to come stay the night,” she explains.

“My Montecito home is my sanctuary for respite and mental clarity. I go there to recharge, to daydream about what we’re building at Goop and to reconnect with my family and treasured friends,” she wrote on the property listing. “Whether you’re seeking a place for unexpected connection or for well-deserved solitude and reflection, when you come to stay, I hope you’ll get as much joy out of the home as I do.” Inside, the stunning guesthouse is just as relaxing as you would expect from a woman who has built an empire promoting energy healing, juice cleansing and the wonders of wellness. It features high ceilings, calming neutral tones and rustic furniture throughout. Outside, the property is surrounded by native plants, breathtaking views and an inviting swimming pool.

“This is nestled right in nature, so you can come and have a zen moment with lots of light and fresh air,” says Gwyneth, who advises guests should “lay by the pool” or visit one of her favourite local hiking trails. Every aspect of the guesthouse has been carefully considered by Gwyneth and her husband Brad Falchuk. Having designed their main home with the concept of a “Parisian apartment set within an old European barn”, everything from its fireplace to the bar has been planned out. “We spent a lot of time thinking about how we wanted to live and what really special things were most important to us,” she says. “I had a wood-burning fireplace in my kitchen when I lived in London, and I loved how cosy it made everything feel.”

The bedroom in the main house is a hub of serenity thanks to its huge windows and pops of yellow. “The strength of the house is in the subtleties of light and space,” Gwyneth told Architectural Digest. “We spent a lot of time assessing family patterns, how we really live, and what makes us most comfortable. The focus was on the experience, the emotion.” Given that Gwyneth is the founder of wellness brand Goop, perhaps it’s no surprise that guests will leave the once-in-a-lifetime experience feeling rejuvenated thanks to an indulgent spa day featuring carefully selected beauty essentials. “Your skin is going to be better when you leave than when you came,” she promises. If that wasn’t enough, a guided transcendental meditation session to empower the mind is on the cards too.

Guests will also be able to indulge in a nourishing Goop Kitchen-inspired meal, and they could even expect to find Gwyneth herself sitting in the home’s incredible wine room. “Another amazing thing we can do when you come and stay is we could have a chef’s dinner in our wine room and you can select whatever bottle of wine you like and we can have a cosy dinner with your guest and my husband,” she explains. “While we may begin as strangers, I hope we’ll find connections and commonalities.” But with that in mind, do be prompt! “Gwyneth is punctual, and if she is like, sitting at 7, it is 7, maybe even 6:59,” her friend, celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe once revealed.
