Some of the stars who have lived there include tennis champ Andy Murray, music icon Elton John, and Rolling Stones’ guitarist Ron Wood. Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden is the latest celeb to make a home there, after listing her five-bedroom family home in south west London for £5million in 2022. As you’d expect, homes in Elmbridge don’t come cheap. Some houses on exclusive estates have sold for up to £20million. The Times reports that over a third of the homes here are worth seven figures. Lucian Cook, head of residential research at Savills, told the publication there’s been a “surge” in £1million-plus homes in the borough. Elmbridge is not just about fancy houses, it’s also home to golf courses, Sandown Racecourse and loads of green spaces like the Wisley and Ockham Commons reserve. The name ‘Elmbridge’ dates back to 1086, appearing as ‘Amelebrige’ in the Domesday Book, named after the River Amele or Emley, now known as the River Mole.
