Zoe headed to a celebrity hotel hot spot loved by Rihanna and Kate Hudson (Image: Atzaró Agroturismo Hotel )We all know Ibiza as the party island of the Med, but if you thought it only offers deep house music, you might be surprised to learn that deep relaxation is also available to visitors if they go looking for it. On a mission to find the island’s healing energy by way of long lunches and blissful spa treatments, I headed to Atzaró Agroturismo Hotel, located on the north-east of the island, to see why the A-list check in there in their masses when they want privacy away from the party-packed hotspots. Originally a farmhouse that stood tall for over 300 years, Atzaró has been in the hands of the same family for generations. It opened as a hotel in 2004 with only eight rooms, and was swiftly put on the map when Penelope Cruz attended a wedding there that same year. Since then, 18 more bedrooms – a mix of double rooms, suites and superior suites – have been added and other big names like Kate Hudson and Shakira have visited. Just last year, Rihanna booked herself into one of the plush deluxe suites that sit behind a gated door.

The surroundings Though the hotel may be small in terms of its number of rooms, it sits on 13 hectares of land. With 3,000 orange trees lining the property, 200 solar panels, three wells and crops that produce most of the organic vegetables used in the kitchen, sustainability and self-efficiency are at the heart of Atzaró’s ethos. I particularly enjoyed taking a dip in one of the nine swimming pools while looking at Atzaró mountain in the distance. See the sights

I took a nature walk across the countryside, but there are also cycling routes and a fully stocked gym for fitness lovers. Old Town is a 20-minute taxi ride away where you can experience the more lively side of Ibiza, should you want. I also took a trip 15 minutes down the road to Atzaró Beach, where I set up on a pre-booked sunbed for the day and listened to the waves crash as a team of attentive waiters set about serving me a giant, freshly cooked paella. Wellness If you’re a yoga lover, you’ll definitely want to take a look at the fitness schedule. Classes ranging from sound meditation to pilates are run daily by some of Ibiza’s best teachers. Or, if total relaxation is on your mind, I can’t recommend the healing massage enough, which combines traditional elements with reiki healing. The spa itself is also fully stocked with a sauna, hammam and cold plunge pool, and guests are welcome to use the facilities as they wish.
The breakfast was a mix of buffet and à la carte

On the menu I would come back to this hotel for the food alone. The breakfast was a mix of buffet and à la carte, and I found myself ordering the same dish every morning: the red pepper toast with avocado. Dinner and lunches are best spent in the main restaurant, La Veranda, where tables dot around the outside courtyard. A chilled bottle of local white wine and fresh seafood there quickly became my idea of heaven. I also recommend taking a 20-minute trip down the road to visit Aubergine by Atzaró, which sits on many people’s island bucket lists for a reason. The locally sourced dishes, live music and relaxed atmosphere make it the perfect spot for a long lunch in the sun. Book it Rates at the hotel start from £210 for a double bedroom and £520 for a suite in low season and includes breakfast, yoga and wellness classes, and full spa facilities. The hotel is open from March through to October. See atzaro.com for more information. Flights to Ibiza are served by major airlines including Easyjet, BA and TUI and start from £31 out of season.
