Privacy NoticeWhen you’re in need of some much needed ‘R and R’, it doesn’t get much better than a trip to Palm Island. Located near the southern tip of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the private island resort boasts a series of white sandy beaches and is so remote that it can only be accessed via boat. Surrounded by palm trees and turquoise blue waters as far as the eye can see, the oasis is sure to calm even the most energetic of souls. When our OK! reporter got the invite to to visit the 135-acre island, she was content with the prospect of soaking up the sun and enjoying the lowkey vibes. But the reality was so much more magical – read on to find out what made the trip so special, including an unforgettable swim with the local turtles!…

Why Palm Island resort is so hot! There’s a reason why Palm Island in the Caribbean has so many repeat guests – this idyllic private island resort is the dictionary definition of laid-back luxury. On arrival, you’re greeted with a cocktail and invited to check in at your leisure. Then it’s just a case of deciding which beach to settle on or which pool lounger. Or, in some cases, which seat at the bar! With just 41 rooms, the resort never feels crowded. And there are no cars on the island – just the odd golf buggy – which adds to the tranquility. Everything is reachable on foot, from the restaurants to the spa, as the whole island is a mere 135 hectares. But it’s not just the easygoing vibe and stunning location that make Palm Island special. The staff are so welcoming that by the end of your stay you’ll know them all by name, and you probably won’t recall the last time you smiled so much.

A slice of decadence The spectacular Seahorse Villa is the newest addition to Palm Island’s accommodation. It’s a sprawling two-bedroom slice of decadence, with light and airy rooms, a huge open-plan kitchen and lounge, indoor and outdoor showers and its own stretch of palm-fringed beach, cabanas included of course. You might find it hard to tear yourself away – and you definitely won’t want to leave at the end of your holiday. The resort has two other villas – one with a seaside hot tub – as well as four beachfront cottages, which also have outdoor showers, cabanas and perfect views of the sunset. Less extravagant options are available, too. The palm view rooms and the lofts don’t have such eye-watering price tags, but come with the same comfy beds and are still mere steps away from the nearest beach.

Beach BBQ and romantic dining The Palm Restaurant and more intimate Sunset Grill are both open-fronted, giving you beautiful views of the golden sands and the sound of waves lapping the shore as you dine. We loved the beach barbecue night at the Palm – a feast of grilled seafood and meat, with tasty accompaniments. In the mood for romance? Book a private dinner in the gazebo lit with fairy lights. Your pre- selected menu is served with your choice of wine or champagne. But our favourite meal experience was our beach picnic, set up in a secluded part of the island complete with hammock swaying in the breeze and swings set in a shallow seawater pool. The food was delicious and plentiful – and of great interest to the local iguana population, who will watch out for any leftovers. In the evenings, many of the guests mingle in the bar. There’s an impressive cocktail list, which may go some way to explaining the friendly vibe. The rum punch knocked our socks off on day one, but we soon acclimatised, and by the end of the week we enjoyed the rum tasting night with only a teeny bit of a wobble!

Giant turtles and flower-filled baths I downloaded four books on my Kindle in preparation for seven lazy days in the sun but didn’t even finish the first. When we weren’t swimming, snorkelling and trying our hand at paddleboarding, we were cycling round the island on the free-to- borrow bikes, playing tennis, visiting the spa and going out on boat trips. The catamaran cruise to Tobago Cays is a must for the most turquoise water you’ll ever swim in and the chance to snorkel with giant turtles. Lunch is served on board in between the three snorkel stops and there’s a full bar so you can sip a rum punch, or two, along the way. In the spa, we indulged in the Hibiscus Package, involving a flower-filled open-air bath, an invigorating scrub, a relaxing massage and a soothing facial. We’ve got just one tip – try not to get sunburned before you book in! There’s also a sunset cruise on offer, or you can jump on the free shuttle to Union Island for a change of scenery. Or you can head out on a kayak, learn to sail the Hobie Cat, play table tennis and pool in the library, get a game of beach volleyball going or curl up in a lounger for the Tuesday night outdoor movie. Your books will have to wait for the flight home.

How could you not fall in love with the Caribbean beauty of Palm Island?!
