The Avery dressWhilstles’ autumn range has landed and as a fashion writer, I couldn’t wait to check out the new arrivals in-store and try out dresses for all occasions. Burgundy is one of this season’s biggest trends but as we approach the festive period – with 75 days until Christmas, rich green tones and neutrals are also set to be popular choices. I visited the Whistles Covent Garden flagship store and this Dark Green Avery Satin Twist Dress caught my eye. I think it’s perfect to wear for special occasions like evening parties and dates. With short capped sleeves and a subtle cut-out detail at the back, it’s a “quiet luxury” piece without the steep price. The Avery dress, £199, is crafted in this “expensive-looking” dark green shade that gives off a lustrous sheen when the light reflects on it. The silhouette shapes nicely without hugging my body too tightly. The bodice, however, is slightly longer than my torso, so the fabric folded up slightly at the back. But the understated piece has given me a boost in confidence and I could pair it with kitten heels. You can even throw on an oversized sweater and wear it under a big coat.

For a bit of wow factor, shoppers can opt for this Marlow Dashed Snake Dress, £169, which is crafted with an elegant abstract spot print in a blend of rich blue hues. The piece comes with a a waist-cinching belt to enhance an hourglass silhouette. Other than this, the Willow Ribbed Knit Dress, £139, is a comfortable, “winter-cosy” dress made in luxurious cotton and cashmere blend. The £139 taupe dress is designed in a fit-and-flare style that you can whizz from office to off-work drinks. Pair this with a cropped biker jacket and ankle boots for a bit of urban, streetwear chic.

The taupe colour matches well with gold-tone accessories and suede handbags. The Ava Round Neck Knitted Dress, £149, available in grey and forest green, is a signature Whistles staple. The boxy fit and dropped shoulders embodies comfort dressing and is seen as the easy way to transform from desk to dinner. Whistles’ autumn dresses are available for size UK4 to UK20, with selected styles in either petite or regular fit. In other news, the newly relaunched Warehouse has dropped winter styles on Debenhams’ website, giving shoppers up to 50% off.
