Shopping writer Lauren Codling put Happy Goo’s popular hair dryer to the test (Image: Lauren Codling)As a city girl who’s always on the go, I’m constantly on the hunt for hair tools that can help me achieve a glam look without eating into my precious morning time. With my long, naturally straight locks, I need a dryer that delivers sleek results in no time. So when I spotted the £43 HappyGoo Hair Dryer consistently topping Amazon’s bestseller lists and boasting nearly 2,500 five-star reviews, I was intrigued to see if it could live up to its reputation. This clever gadget promises to style and dry hair quickly, thanks to its ionic technology that helps reduce frizz and static, promising a salon-quality finish every time. It’s also hard to ignore that it looks strikingly similar to the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer, renowned for its sleek, futuristic design, reports the Liverpool Echo. So, you can imagine my excitement when it arrived at my doorstep. Even my short-haired mum couldn’t resist giving it a whirl to test its versatility. Could this beauty tool work its magic on us and seamlessly fit into our hectic schedules? The dryer has a sleek, futuristic look with its grey hue and circular head

My honest review of the Happy Goo Hair Dryer At first glance, it could easily pass for the Supersonic – it’s sleek, compact and sports a similar circular head. It’s also incredibly lightweight – lighter than any other dryer I’ve used before – which means no more wrist ache from manoeuvring it around my head. The hairdryer has three heat settings – cold, warm and hot – and two fan speeds, which proved useful depending on my hairstyling needs. It even features a cold blast function, perfect for setting my style in place. During my trial, I initially thought the highest heat setting wasn’t that hot, causing me to worry about the time it would take to dry my entire head. However, it was sufficiently warm to dry my long hair in under five minutes, thanks to its powerful 2000W motor. It also quickly dried my mum’s short hair without causing any frizz. I was particularly interested in its built-in ionisation feature, designed to leave hair smooth, soft and shiny.

Honestly, I can’t fault it – after using it, my hair looked as if I’d just stepped out of a salon or styled it with my trusty ghds. The dryer comes with three attachments: two concentrator nozzles for precision styling and a diffuser for creating volume and defining natural curls. As neither my mum nor I have curly hair, we didn’t find much use for the diffuser, but the concentrator nozzles were fantastic. They allowed me to target specific areas and comb through my hair as I dried it, resulting in a smooth, poker-straight finish. Similarly, once her hair was dry, my mum’s locks looked straight and healthy without much need for additional styling. This saved us time and eliminated the need for hair straighteners or tongs, giving our hair a break from high heat. Even better, our hairstyles lasted until the end of the day.

However, despite the effectiveness of the attachments, my mum and I found them a bit tricky to use. They securely attach to the hair dryer’s head but are angled in such a way that you have to twist your wrist to use them, which felt unnatural and took some getting used to when styling. Aside from that, I’m chuffed with this handy hair dryer. It gives me sleek results with minimal effort, which is exactly what I need in the morning when I don’t have time to faff about – and for £42.99, it’s a steal. You can grab the HappyGoo Hair Dryer on Amazon here, or if you want to splash out, you could opt for the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer, which retails for £399.99. Alternatively, if you’re looking for something more budget-friendly, Argos has slashed the price of this Remington D5220 Pro Air Turbo Hair Dryer to £25.99 from £33. Remington’s Sapphire Luxe Hair Dryer is also on offer, down from £45 to £29.99.
