Packing for a holiday isn’t always a stress-free experience (Image: Getty Images)Summer is just round the corner and a lot of people are preparing to jet off to sun-soaked destinations over the coming months. But despite the joy that heading on a trip can bring, from packing your case to making sure you’ve got all the right paperwork, getting ready to go on holiday can be extremely time-consuming. When it comes to jetting off, there’s nothing worse than something going wrong at the airport. With a large amount of airlines having strict luggages policies, it can be easy to be hit with extra charges before you’ve even started your holiday. Flight attendant Miguel Muñoz, has provided a genius hack that allows you to take an extra bag with you on your flight.

Miguel, who has been an air steward for over 10 years, shared his top tip with Express.co.uk. Nicknaming it the “duty-free hack”, he revealed how by using a duty-free carrier bag passengers can bring an extra bag with them on their flight, as “duty-free bags don’t count as carry-on baggage”. Most people aren’t aware of this rule, and for those who find it difficult to ensure their belongings all fit into one case or that your luggage weighs the right amount, it could be a game-changer. Miguel explained: “If you have something that doesn’t fit in your suitcase or you want to bring an extra bag on board, here’s the trick. “All you have to do is carry a duty-free bag. Or ask for one at the duty-free shop and you place whatever you want in the shopping bag.”

Many airlines, such as easyJet and Ryanair, have strict luggage policies in place and only allow travellers to have one small bag with them as carry-on luggage for free, and it must fit under the seat. Most airlines will also charge passengers who bring an extra carry-on bag or luggage with them. If you’re struggling to find a carry-on bag that works for you, this Amazon Underseat Carry On Cabin Case, £15.99 here, measures 40 x 20 x 25 and is designed to fit neatly under your seat. Besides its main compartment, the nifty bag also has a separate shoe pocket to help prevent dirty shoes from staining your holiday attire. Meanwhile Argos’ Rock Small Under Seat Holdall, £28 here, is another great option and features a shoe / laundry pocket that’s accessible from the outside. But if rucksacks are more your thing, Dunelm’s Rock Luggage Cabin Backpack, £24 here, is made from durable high density polyester fabric and comes with a one year manufacturer guarantee.

If that wasn’t enough, Miguel’s clever trick can also be used if your luggage is over the required weight and the airline is attempting to charge you for the extra weight. You can simply remove certain items from your case to decrease the weight, and then take them on board with you in a duty-free bag. However, if you’d rather not risk being charged for extra weight, this FREETOO Luggage Scale Portable Digital Weight Scale, £9.91 here (was £19.99), from Amazon allows you to weigh your luggage before arriving at the airport.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
