If wheels or handles are sticking out, passengers may be charged extra (Image: Getty Images)Jet2 and EasyJet passengers are being reminded to pay attention to a lesser-known rule that applies to all ‘wheeled and handled’ bags. Each airline has its own rules regarding the hand luggage passengers can bring on board and the type of suitcases that can be checked in. Some airlines enforce strict size limits and holidaymakers found with oversized luggage may face additional charges at the check-in desk or airport gate. EasyJet’s standard baggage policy allows all passengers to bring one small under seat bag on board free of charge. There’s no weight limit, but the bag must fit under the seat in front of you and cannot exceed 45x36x20cm, like this Chelsea Overnight Bag from luxury suitcase brand Antler. Another great option is this Travel Backpack – Cabin Size, which is currently discounted to £23.55 and meets the strict under-seat size regulations for airlines such as RyanAir. A secondary rule stipulates that this bag measurement must include any wheels and handles. EasyJet utilises baggage sizers at its check-in desks and airport gates, and passengers may be asked to place their bag inside to demonstrate it fits. If the main body of the bag fits but handles, wheels or straps protrude and cannot be tucked away, passengers may still incur charges. EasyJet’s £48 Airport Bag Fee is applicable to any small hand luggage bag or large hand luggage bag that exceeds that person’s paid-for allowance, reports Birmingham Live. They’re advising customers to measure up, including those tricky handles and wheels, and compare with the allowed size on their website, saying: “If you think your luggage might be bigger than your allowance, please measure it and don’t forget to include any handles and wheels, and check it against your allowed size here. If it’s too big you can add additional baggage in your account before you check in.” If your bag’s too big, you can sort it out by adding extra baggage to your account at pre-check-in. The airline also gives a heads-up about a £48 charge for oversized luggage at the check-in or bag drop desk, saying: “If you’re told at the check-in or bag drop desk that your luggage is too big you’ll need to pay a £48 fee. If our ground crew tell you at the gate that your luggage is too big, you’ll have to pay the fee at the gate.” For those looking to level up their travel game, EasyJet suggests going for a larger cabin bag like the Antler Clifton Cabin Bag, which fits within the 56x45x25cm limit. Plus, there’s a sweet £42 off deal on it right now. Jet2 is also chiming in with a luggage lowdown, reminding everyone that hand luggage must fit within the 56x45x25cm dimensions. Jet2’s policy is crystal clear: “You can take one piece of hand luggage onboard free of charge, as long as it weighs no more than 10kg and is no larger than 56cmx45cmx25cm including wheels and handles.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
