The water flosser is perfect for getting to those hard-to-reach places and removing dirt from below the gumline (Image: Bethan Shufflebotham)Often, I find myself influenced by a late-night TikTok scroll to buy somewhat obscure items, which usually end up forgotten at the back of a cupboard after a few uses. However, there’s one gadget I purchased earlier this year that has become a daily essential for the past six months, especially for those who are serious about their oral hygiene. Earlier this year, while scrolling through the video-sharing app instead of sleeping, I stumbled upon numerous videos about water flossers. They looked incredibly impressive, but I had my doubts about their effectiveness, potential harm to teeth, and whether they were worth the investment. Fortunately, I had a dentist appointment scheduled for the following week. During my check-up, I asked her opinion on water flossers. To my delight, she said that while they “shouldn’t be used as a replacement for flossing or brushing”, they are a great addition to my daily routine. With the professional’s endorsement, I immediately went to Amazon and ordered the COSLUS Water Teeth Flosser. Usually priced at £29.99, the device is available in three colours – black, white, and green, reports MyLondon. I own the white version, and although it’s not currently on sale, the green one has been discounted to £17.99 as part of Amazon’s Big Deal Days. The Amazon water flosser comes with a range of attachments for leveling up your teeth cleaning routine

The cordless water flosser comes with a variety of jet picks, a charger and a 300ml capacity water tank, which is more than enough to clean your entire mouth in one go. To kick things off, I popped on the 0.5mm ultra-fine water column, filled up the tank and got cracking. The handy device boasts four settings: normal, soft, pulse and DIY, and I tend to switch between them based on how my gums are feeling, with normal packing a bit more punch than soft. At first, I was convinced that water flossing would be a messy affair, but the key is to pop the jet in your mouth and seal your lips around it to prevent any water from making a break for it. Once you’ve switched it on, you can feel where the jet is doing its thing, and you just need to turn it off before taking it out to spit the water out. The first time I used it, I was both fascinated and slightly grossed out by what came out, as the powerful and effective jet managed to dislodge residue and food from beneath the gum line that I simply couldn’t get to with brushing or regular flossing. The 360 degree rotating nozzle makes it a breeze to clean from any angle, while still being kind to the gums. I did notice some bleeding initially, but my dentist reassured me that this was totally normal. Although the device is a bit on the large side, and I sometimes find it tricky to turn it off quickly, it’s generally a doddle to use, with no need for constant refills and a battery life of 30 days, meaning it only needs charging once a month. Sometimes, I even chuck in a bit of mouthwash into the water for that extra fresh feeling. Having used it nearly every day since I bought it, I can confidently say that it’s one of the best items I bought online this year, and helps me maintain that hygienist-fresh feeling between my regular check-ups. And I’m not the only one.

The flosser has racked up a 4.2 star rating from shoppers, based on more than 2,000 ratings, praising its ease of use and the dentist-fresh results. One said: “I have absolutely NO regrets buying this water flosser, battery is still going and it’s been a fair few weeks, I use every day and it’s very effective in cleaning my gums and between my teeth, my teeth and mouth feel so much cleaner after using this! Excellent product! “. Another added: “I am so happy with this water flosser. I have bought more expensive ones in the past but this model is much better made. Really does the job well. Yes it can be a bit messy but all water flossers I have used have been. Teeth feel so much cleaner after using this. Such a great price.” One did mention it was a bit bulky, commenting: “I’ve found the flosser a bit too cumbersome to handle and there are design issues on the power button. The power/speed of the flosser could be a bit more intense.” If you’re not quite sold on a water flosser, why not consider upgrading from a manual to an electric toothbrush for a deeper clean? The Oral-B iO5 Electric Toothbrush For Adults, originally priced at £280, is now a steal at £89.99. Boasting five cleaning modes, the Oral-B i05 Toothbrush promises to banish 100% more plaque than a manual toothbrush. Plus, with the AI-powered Oral-B cleaning app, you can track your brushing in real time to ensure no spot is missed.
