Privacy NoticeLiam Payne’s sister Ruth has broken her silence on his tragic death, sharing a heart-wrenching message saying: “I’m sorry I couldn’t save you”. In an emotional Instagram post, Ruth confessed she was finding it hard to come to terms with the devastating news and wished she could ‘drive to her brother’s house and speak to him’. “One last time I need you to know, I’m here if you need anything. I’d drive to the end of the universe to bring you back,” she posted. Liam sadly passed away at just 31 years old on Wednesday after falling from his hotel balcony in Argentina, where he had travelled to support One Direction bandmate Niall Horan on tour.

Liam Payne’s sister Ruth has spoken for the first time since her brother’s death

Liam was very close to his family and often referred to his sisters Ruth and Nicola as his ‘friends for life. ‘ Earlier this week, Liam’s parents left their home in Wolverhampton to fly to Buenos Aires to start the process of bringing their son home, reports the Mirror. Speaking out for the first time since the tragedy, Ruth took to Instagram to pay a touching tribute to her ‘brother and best friend. ‘ Ruth penned: “Liam, my brain is struggling to catch up with what’s happening and I don’t understand where you’ve gone. I just want to drive to your house and walk in to music blasting and find you sat there writing a song or walk into your art phases and sit with you while you draw or craft.” She continued, “What I love most about you is your ability to make me laugh. I never chuckle as much as I do when I’m with you with anyone else. I’m always in awe of your talent it should be illegal to be so talented and just have the ability to not only be good at things but to be bloody great at everything you attempt, without even knowing you’re absolutely smashing it each time.” “I love your kindness and how proud I am to call you my brother and my best friend. You also make a great Sunday dinner too! ” she added with a laugh. Ruth’s heartfelt words come after her father was spotted outside the CasaSur Hotel in Argentina, visibly moved by the tributes left by fans for his late son. Geoff Payne, father of the late British star, was spotted leaving the Casa Sur Hotel in Argentina, where his 31 year old son tragically fell from a third-floor balcony. According to the Associated Press, Mr Payne flew to Argentina to arrange for his son’s body to be returned home.

Following the devastating loss, the family released a statement saying: “Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul.” Cheryl, former Girls Aloud member and mother to Liam’s seven year old son, Bear, expressed her concerns about protecting their child amidst their high-profile relationship from 2016 to 2018. In an Instagram post, she wrote: “As I try to navigate this earth shattering event, and work through my own grief at this indescribably painful time, I’d like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being,” Sharing a monochrome photo of Payne with their son Bear, she continued: “Liam was not only a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our 7 year old son.” She ended her heartfelt message by urging people to respect Liam’s memory and allow him to “rest in some peace at last”. Kate Cassidy, the girlfriend of the late singer, expressed her deep sorrow over his passing. “Nothing about the past few days have felt real,” she shared on her Instagram story, adding: “Liam, my angel, you are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam.” Music mogul Simon Cowell also expressed his devastation, saying he felt “heartbroken” and “empty”.

Payne rose to fame alongside Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Harry Styles when they were put together by Simon to form One Direction on The X Factor in 2010. “Every tear I have shed is a memory of you,” Simon wrote on Instagram, adding that his son Bear “will be so proud of everything you achieved, and how you achieved it”. Liam first auditioned for The X Factor in 2008 at the age of 14, singing Frank Sinatra’s Fly Me To The Moon. Cowell advised him to return two years later. In 2010, he wowed the judges with Michael Buble’s Cry Me A River before being grouped with four other solo hopefuls – the group which later became One Direction. “I had to tell you when you were 14 that this wasn’t your time. And we both made a promise that we would meet again. A lot of people would have given up. You didn’t,” Simon said. He fondly recalled their recent reunion, saying they “reminisced about all of the fun times we had together.” “After you left, I was reminded that you were still the sweet, kind boy I had met all of those years ago,” he added. This heartfelt message followed Niall Horan’s own tribute, where he expressed he will “cherish every moment” with Liam “forever”. Fans were delighted to see Liam dancing at Horan’s concert a fortnight ago at the Movistar Arena in Argentina, where he was accompanied by his girlfriend Cassidy.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
