(Image: Timothy Hiatt/Getty Images for Nickelodeon)One Direction star Liam Payne may have been under the influence of a drug known to cause psychotic episodes and hallucinations at the time of his death, according to investigating police. The singer tragically fell from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur hotel on Wednesday night. The 31 year old was reportedly behaving ‘erratically’ in the hours leading up to the tragic incident. Buenos Aires police are now exploring the possibility that Liam was high on a potent substance known to cause extreme highs and lows in users and can lead to aggressive behaviour. Police told TMZ that Liam’s behaviour seemed consistent with hallucinogenic drug use, but they have not confirmed what substances were found in the room. The results of tests on narcotics and medications recovered are still pending.

Photos from inside Liam’s hotel room revealed traces of white powder, tin foil and a smashed television screen. Officials have not commented or provided any official information to support or rubbish the unconfirmed claims. The initial autopsy, conducted on Wednesday night, indicated that Liam died from multiple trauma injuries, including a skull fracture, which resulted in “internal and external haemorrhaging,” reports the Mirror. Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No 16 said it was investigating the incident as an “inconclusive death” following the report. A transcript of a 911 call made by hotel staff reveals the hotel manager telling emergency services: “We have a guest who’s off his head on drugs and is destroying everything in his room. We need someone to come.” The manager made a second call expressing concern for the guest’s safety, specifically mentioning the balcony in Liam’s room. “We need you to send someone urgently because, well, I don’t know if the guest’s life is in danger. They must be in a room that has a balcony. And well, we’re a little bit worried he’ll do something, that he’ll put his life at risk.”

Local reports suggest that Clonazepam, a drug used to manage seizures and panic attacks, was found in Liam’s hotel room. Geoff Payne, Liam’s father, has flown to Buenos Aires following the tragic death of his son, which Cheryl, Liam’s ex-partner, described as “indescribably painful”. Geoff was spotted leaving the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires, where the 31 year old British star tragically fell from a third-floor balcony. According to the Associated Press, Geoff travelled to Argentina to arrange for his son’s body to be returned home. In photos, Geoff can be seen visiting the tributes left by fans outside the hotel, reading letters and pausing to look at flowers, photos and candles. This follows the family’s statement expressing their heartbreak over Liam’s death, saying: “Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul.”

Girls Aloud star Cheryl has expressed her worries about safeguarding the seven year old son she shares with Liam, following their high-profile romance from 2016 to 2018. “As I try to navigate this earth shattering event, and work through my own grief at this indescribably painful time, I’d like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being,” she penned in an Instagram post. Alongside a black and white snap of Liam in bed with their young son Bear, she continued: “Liam was not only a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our 7 year old son. A son that now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again.”

The 41 year old ended her statement by pleading for people to allow Liam “the little dignity he has left in the wake of his death to rest in some peace at last”. In an emotionally charged tribute posted on Instagram, Kate Cassidy, girlfriend of the late Liam, admitted she’s been at a “complete loss” since his passing. “Nothing about the past few days have felt real. “Liam, my angel, you are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
