Liam Payne jumped from his hotel balcony, say reports quoting local policeLiam Payne “jumped from the balcony” of his hotel room leading to his untimely death, police in Buenos Aires have said in a statement to the Associated Press, reported by the Mirror US that appears to rule out an accidental fall or foul play. The 31 year old singer died on Wednesday night after falling from the third floor of a hotel in the upscale neighbourhood of Palermo. The singer, famous for his part in the One Direction music sensation formed on the 2010 series of X Factor was on a getaway in Argentina with girlfriend Kate Cassidy, attending a concert by his former bandmate Niall Horan. A preliminary autopsy report revealed that the star died from “multiple traumas” causing both “internal and external bleeding” after a 40-foot fall.

The police statement to The Associated Press said Liam, who was just 31, “had jumped from the balcony of his room”. Officers rushed to the hotel in response to an emergency call just after 5pm local time warning of an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” the statement added. Prior to the incident, the head of reception at the 61-room Hotel Casa Sur made two urgent calls to the emergency services, stating: “We have a guest who’s off his head on drugs and is destroying everything in his room. We need someone to come.” An employee made an urgent follow-up call after the line went silent, saying: “We need you to send someone urgently because I don’t know if the guest’s life is in danger. They must be in a room that has a balcony. And well, we’re a little bit worried he’ll do something, that he’ll put his life at risk.” Kate had left Liam Payne in Argentina and headed back to the US days before his tragic death. Kate explained to fans on TikTok: “Honestly, love South America but I hate staying in one place for too long. And we were supposed to be there for, like, five days, turned into two weeks. I was just like, ‘I need to go home.’” Liam chose not to go with her but Kate didn’t say why. Sign up to OK!’s daily newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

The City Police of Buenos Aires’ Mobile Criminalistics Unit gathered forensic evidence in the hotel room where the incident occurred with investigators discovered items including a bottle of whiskey, a lighter, and a cell phone believed to be Liam’s, which is likely to be analysed for any messages. Each item bore detectable fingerprints. Local police previously confirmed that an investigation was underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Toxological and anatomical-pathologicial studies of blood and urine are being undertaken to determine any traces of drugs. The results and a closer examination of Liam’s past medical records are expected to shed light on possible substance abuse and his mental health status. Alberto Crescenti, the head of Buenos Aires emergency services, has spoken about the immediate nature of Liam’s death due to severe and multiple injuries, saying a skull fracture was among them. He said: “Our role was to head there quickly, give medical attention, and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life. Based on what the team saw, there was apparently a cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death.” Yesterday evening, Liam Payne’s One Direction bandmates released a heartbreaking statement about his death. It read: “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. “The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam.” The statement was signed “Louis, Zayn, Niall and Harry” and many of the group also shared their personal thoughts too.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
