Privacy NoticeKirstie Allsopp has sparked a debate online after revealing that she let her 15 year old son travel across Europe without an adult. The Location, Location, Location star was met with concerns from worried parents after her son went interrailing with his mate who was 16, but she quickly hit back with a witty remark. Fans of the 52 year old TV presenter, who shares Oscar with partner Ben Andersen, believe he’s too young to be interrailing around Europe for three weeks without an adult. One fan expressed their concern and said they would have “never forgiven” themselves “if things had gone wrong” during the lad’s lengthy journey.

“You can’t wrap them up in cotton wool but it can be a dangerous world and 15 is not mature enough for all encounters,” another chimed in on X, formerly Twitter. But Kirstie was quick to jump to her own defence and that of Oscar, who celebrated his 16th birthday on Wednesday, 21 August, about their nine-stop adventure, reports the Mirror. “For obvious budget reasons interrailing isn’t on the cards for everyone, but in this increasingly risk-averse world it’s vital that we find any ways we can to give our children the confidence that only comes from trusting them,” she fired back on Twitter. She added: “If we’re afraid our children will also be afraid, if we let go, they will fly.” Kirstie, who also has an 18 year old son Bay Atlas with Ben, didn’t hold back when responding to comments suggesting she wouldn’t have allowed her child to travel if they were a girl. She made it clear that she’s no stranger to globetrotting.

According to the European network, minors require parental permission to Interrail. Kirstie’s no stranger to stirring up Twitter debates as she recently caught heat for suggesting some young people “aren’t ready to leave home yet”. She wrote on the platform, now owned by Elon Musk: “If you don’t know that dishwashers require both salt and rinse aid and that dishwashers, washing machine and tumble dryers have filters that must be regularly cleaned you aren’t ready to leave home, much less rent or buy your own home.” However, Kirstie’s remarks didn’t sit well with everyone, as one user clapped back: “Based on the assumption that people already have these in their home? Some aren’t as fortunate and use good old fashioned hands to wash dishes and dry clothes around the house, costs less and takes up less space #privileged comment there..”

One person shared their experience: “I didn’t have a dishwasher or a tumble dryer until I was 30. I left home at 19.” Another critic weighed in: “I’ve had my dishwasher 18 years.. I know it says it needs salt and rise aid. But I’ve never put any in. It still washes my dishes just fine. It’s all BS to try and sell you more s**** you don’t need.” Meanwhile, someone else noted: “You can dispense with salt and rinse aid if you use the appropriate all-in-one tablets. Many dishwashers have a specific setting for not requiring salt/rinse aid. Filters though, definitely.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK! MagazineFacebookTwitterCommentMore OnKirstie Allsopp
