Privacy NoticeRock legend Kenney Jones once had an embarrassing encounter with King Charles, where he accidentally ‘peed on’ the royal’s shoes after a polo match. The 76 year old drummer, known for his time with Small Faces and The Who, had this unfortunate incident at the Hurtwood Park Polo Club in Surrey, a place he transformed into a stunning venue featuring a restored 18th-century barn as a clubhouse. As chairman of the club, Jones has welcomed royalty from near and far, including Princess Diana and her sons Prince William and Harry, and even Prince Albert of Monaco. However, it was his interaction with then-Prince Charles that left him blushing, according to Daily Mail Diary Editor Richard Eden. Recalling the incident, Jones said: “We’d played a match, and I was having a pee.” He asked his son if Prince Charles had left, only to hear a voice reply: “No, he’s still here.”

To his shock, it was then-then Prince Charles himself, causing Jones to turn around in surprise and accidentally urinate on his boots. Jones reckons the King still owns those boots today, reports the Express. The Hurtwood club, spread over 180 acres, features four polo pitches, a clubhouse barn, and stables. It has been a polo hotspot since the late 1990s, although it faced challenges when the royals reportedly reduced their polo playing. In 2013, the club faced financial difficulties and entered administration, but Jones was determined to keep it under his wing, as per MailOnline. An insider shared: “Princess Diana would go there when Charles played and Prince Albert of Monaco has also been there as a guest.”

They added: “It’s a tough time now for sponsors because the royals don’t play polo much so the sport has been struggling.” Despite challenges, Jones tried to develop the polo club in 2014 with plans for new homes, a hotel, and stables, but local residents pushed back, leading to a rejection of the proposal. Fast forward to 2023, the club hit the market with a price tag of £5million, later dropped to £4m. Clark Gammon, the estate agent, hinted at “possible long term planning opportunities on some of the land”. Currently, the clubhouse, originally from Sussex, is a venue for various events including parties, weddings, and corporate gatherings.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
