Privacy Notice King Charles could be raking in a jaw-droping £1.4million annually from renting out royal properties across the UK, according to a recent study. The Royal Family boasts an impressive collection of properties, stretching from Scotland to Cornwall, many of which are rented out to members of the public during holiday periods. Data gathered by holiday lettings experts, Pikl Insurance, suggests that the royals could be pocketing around £118,775.85 each month, totalling a staggering £1,425,310.20 per year from their holiday let portfolio. Even when taking into account cancellations, the monarchy is still estimated to net an annual income just over £1.4million.

Some of the key royal properties open to the public include Balmoral Castle, the Castle of Mey’s Captain House, Restormel Manor and Dumfries House. The research shows that the Royal Family’s favourite summer getaway, Balmoral Castle in Scotland, brings in a hefty £36,798.30 per month after accounting for expected cancellations. However, it’s not the top earner – that title goes to Restormel Manor in Cornwall, which pulls in an impressive £47,082 per month. The manor offers four different areas within its walls for the public to book, as well as six converted barns on the property.

Meanwhile, Dumfries House in Ayrshire, Scotland, contributes £31,185.63 to the royal purse with over 25 rooms available for booking, reports the Express. Finally, the Captain’s House at the Castle of Mey in the Scottish Highlands reportedly rakes in a humble £3,709.92 per month, with the entire property available for booking. The research revealed: “While the primary role of the Royal Family is undoubtedly to serve the nation, it’s clear that their properties also represent a valuable asset.” “These figures underscore the significant financial potential of the royal estate and offer a fascinating glimpse into the business side of the monarchy.”

During The King’s tenure as The Prince of Wales, his income came from the revenues produced by the vast private estate of the Duchy of Cornwall. Prince William then became the 27th Prince of Wales following Queen Elizabeth II’s death and was granted the additional titles of the Duke of Cornwall, the Earl of Chester, the Duke of Rothesay, the Earl of Carrick, the Baron of Renfrew, Lord of the Isles and Prince and Great Steward of Scotland.

At the time, a charter ruled that every future Duke of Cornwall would be the eldest surviving son of the monarch, as well as the heir to the throne. Another important factor of the estate is that the revenues from the estate are used to fund the public, private, and charitable activities of Prince William and his family. During his time in the role, King Charles worked with the Duchy of Cornwall for many years and created a number of important projects – including the Poundsbury and Nansledan Estates.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
