Katherine Ryan put on a brave face with a smile as she was pictured back at work just days after revealing her skin cancer diagnosis. The 41 year old comedian was pictured on Sunday evening as she arrived in Blackpool for her show, part of her ongoing tour Battleaxe, which began last autumn and is set to wrap up in May. Snapped outside The Grand Theatre, Katherine, 41, opted for a laid-back look, in comfy beige tracksuit bottoms, Converse, and an oversized fleece. She kept it simple with no makeup, with her hair tucked under a purple cap, and looked in good spirits as she waved and smiled.

Last week the Would I Lie To You? star disclosed her battle with skin cancer, revealing she has been diagnosed with melanoma for the second time. Katherine, who has been open about having stage two melanoma when she was younger, noticed a suspicious mole in 2022. Despite initial reassurances from a medical professional, she trusted her instincts that something wasn’t right, reports the Mirror. Katherine opened up about her health journey on her podcast Telling Everybody Everything, recounting how she noticed a mole on her arm and pursued further medical advice despite being told there was nothing to worry about, as she remained “really worried” and sensed that something was amiss.

Katherine opened up about her decision not to simply accept the all clear and “walk away”, stating: “The mole kept changing, I know a lot about melanoma, I had stage two melanoma as a very young woman – aged 21 – on my leg, I’ve spoken about that before.” She continued: “But even when he looked at it, he was like, ‘it’s not melanoma, it’s totally fine, I will do a shave and send it away for testing.'” Despite the doctor’s reassurances, Katherine was later called back with the confirmation that it was indeed melanoma. Katherine also revealed that she had to go private to get the procedure she wanted, but quickly clarified in a post that she wasn’t trying to criticise the NHS. During the podcast, she disclosed that she paid one clinic £300 for a “seven-minute” consultation: “The only reason that they agreed to remove it was because I went to a fancy, private place in South Kensington, and I paid them a grand.” The star later took to Instagram on Friday to clarify: “Hello, I’m just in a meeting right now, but I realised that the melanoma thing from my podcast got picked up and with added commentary like, ‘takes a swipe at the NHS’. I’ve made a TikTok explaining because it’s just the most concise way and it’s fine and it’s not a big deal. So don’t stress. “.
