Privacy NoticeThe Princess Royal has dedicated her life to royal service and is consistently ranked as one of the hardest working members of the family. And even though she is 74, she is showing no sign of slowing down. Unlike many members of the Royal Family, Princess Anne’s hundreds of engagements typically go unreported as the stoic royal is not a fan of overwhelming media attention. In a landmark interview to mark her 70th birthday in 2020, Princess Anne revealed her thoughts on life within the Firm and offered her view on how it is different nowadays for the likes of the Princess of Wales compared to when she first started out as a working royal.

During an appearance in the documentary Anne: The Princess Royal at 70 to celebrate her birthday in 2020, she offered her view on how royal life has changed for the younger working royals, such as the Prince and Princess of Wales. “The pressure that is applied to the younger members of the family, it’s always worse. That’s what the media is interested in. That’s hard sometimes to deal with. But there was no social media in my day, and it’s probably made it more difficult. With online technology… being in touch is one thing but it’s not quite the same. The ability to meet people, that’s what makes the difference. I know what Twitter is, but I wouldn’t go anywhere near it if you paid me frankly. But that’s a slightly different issue.” Sign up to OK!’s royal newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

Elsewhere in the documentary a number of famous faces came together to speak about the Princess’ lifelong dedication to her duties. Lord Sebastian Coe remembered one particular moment that he admitted to finding hilarious. He said: “The Princess Royal was on the big committee and her contribution was seismic and it was always to the point, she doesn’t always suffer fools gladly and she doesn’t speak for the sake of speaking. I do remember after a rather long-winded interjection by one of the committee members she had actually forgotten to turn her microphone off and she did manage to utter the immortal words ‘I think this person is probably the most stupid person in world sport’. “This echoed absolutely around the room and she never flinched, it was as though it had never happened and we just moved on but it is probably one of my favourite moments.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
