Privacy NoticeThe frosty relationship between Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge doesn’t seem to be warming up anytime soon. The Sussexes have publicly criticised William and Kate multiple times since their dramatic departure from Royal duties, with insiders suggesting that the relationship between the two couples is virtually non-existent. However, despite their ongoing feud, a new Royal book has revealed that the Cambridges extended an olive branch to Harry and Meghan following a poignant evening at Buckingham Palace. This gesture reportedly occurred in the days following the death of the late Queen, when all members of the Royal Family gathered at the palace after the former monarch’s coffin was brought there before being processed to Westminster Hall the next day for the lying in state. As the Royal Family awaited the arrival of the coffin, an informal supper brought together the feuding couples. According to the new biography Charles II. New King. New Court. The Inside Story by author Robert Hardman, William and Kate made a small conciliatory gesture, which would have been approved by Elizabeth II.

The author wrote: “Inside the palace, all members of the Royal Family were there to welcome the Queen back to royal headquarters for the last time, followed by an informal supper. Afterwards, the Prince and Princess of Wales suggested that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should attach their car to their police escort for the journey back to Windsor since they were all going the same way. “It was only a small gesture (they would not be sharing a car) and nowhere near any sort of reconciliation. However, the late Queen would have approved.” Sign up to OK’s royal newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

The passing of the late Queen occurred just before Harry and Meghan’s explosive Netflix docuseries aired, where they laid bare their experiences within the Royal Family. The series did not shy away from controversy, with both William and King Charles being criticised; William for allegedly “screaming and shouting” and King Charles accused of ‘lying’ during a significant family meeting. However, a friend reportedly confided to the author that what Harry implied about Kate in his Netflix series was seen as the “lowest of the low” by Prince William, reports the Mirror. In the opening episode of the documentary, Harry remarked: “I think for so many people in the family, especially obviously the men, there can be a temptation or an urge to marry someone who would fit the mould as opposed to somebody who you perhaps are destined to be with.” According to the bombshell book, friends of the Royal Family were convinced Prince Harry was targeting William and Kate. One insider is quoted in the book saying: “On top of all the other breaches of trust, here was Harry making a blatant attack on Catherine. For William, this was the lowest of the low.” Weeks later, when Harry’s tell-all book Spare hit the shelves, he didn’t shy away from spilling the tea about Kate, sharing intimate details of a rift between her and Meghan. He recounted an incident where Kate supposedly ‘grimaced’ after Meghan used her lip gloss and detailed a spat over Kate’s alleged “baby brain” following the birth of Prince Louis.
