Privacy NoticeGood Morning Britain ’s Charlotte Hawkins spoke to OK! for an exclusive interview in which she opened up about not only her telly pals, but life away from the TV cameras. And the star, who has spent most of her adult life on breakfast TV, couldn’t talk about her time on Good Morning Britain, without mentioning her colleague, and dear friend, Kate Garraway. “I’m so lucky with the team of people that we’ve got”, she explained. “Everyone has different personalities and brings something unique to the table, but it also boils down to the fact that we all get on. I’m surrounded by people who get it, we’re all there for one another. And addressing the difficult times her co-host is going through – which most recently includes some time away from the show after her father’s suspected stroke, the Chichester-born broadcaster added: “Kate [Garraway], in particular, has been going through a really tough time and the thing is that she knows we’re all there for her. We’re all there to support each other.” She continued: “We are one big family. I like to think that viewers are sort of listening to their mates having a conversation and chatting about what’s going on that day.

“I think it’s so nice that what you see is what you get. It’s lovely that we have that relationship. We get the job done but we can tease each other and have a laugh. That’s what makes GMB special. Opening up recently to Best magazine, Charlotte admitted that Kate’s family have been her rock, since she lost her husband Derek Draper at the start of this year, following a long battle with the devastating after-effects of Covid. Charlotte said: “When Kate lost her husband, Derek, in January, everyone pulled together to support her. She’s been through an extraordinarily tough time.”

She added: “When you lose someone that you love very much, it’s constant pain. You wonder what the way forward will be, it’s not a question of getting over it, but learning to live with it.” Speaking to Prima eariler this year, Charlotte admitted she was full of admiration for her friend: ‘I’m full of admiration for how Kate has kept everything going. She wanted to be strong for Derek and the family. ‘It’s love that keeps you going and gets you through situations like that – love for the person you’re caring for, for your family that you need to be strong for and for the people around you who are helping to support you.’Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
