Privacy NoticeGood Morning Britain’s beloved Kate Garraway has had to step away from the ITV show due to a family health crisis. The 57 year old presenter is keeping a vigil at her father Gordon’s side after he suffered what is feared to be a stroke and heart attack last Tuesday (16 July). The dedicated host made a swift exit from ITV just moments after last week’s show wrapped up, upon receiving the distressing news of her father’s condition. With Susanna Reid enjoying her summer break, Kate had been adjusting her schedule to fill in, but the crisis meant that Ranvir Singh graciously filled in for Kate’s regular Thursday hosting duties. Fans were reassured by the show’s X feed that Richard Madeley would join Ranvir, with a tweet stating: “Today. Join Ranvir and Richard from 6 am on ITV1.”

A source confided to The Sun about the harrowing ordeal, saying: “Very sadly, Kate’s father collapsed earlier this week while staying, along with her mum and her brother in Cornwall. It was incredibly frightening as he was found unconscious and immediately taken to hospital. It seems likely that he’s had a stroke and possibly a heart attack as well – doctors are still doing tests.” The insider added: “He remains in hospital and is currently stable but, understandably, it’s given the whole family a terrible scare and they are praying he can recover.”, reports Devon Live. The absence of Kate on GMB sparked fans’ curiosity, with one expressing concern by posting on social media: “Guessing Kate’s off #GMB because of her dad… sending love.”
It comes after the star lost her husband Derek earlier this year
Details of the distressing news emerged after the sad loss of Kate’s husband, Derek Draper. Derek had an intense journey with coronavirus since its outbreak in March 2020, leading to repeated hospital visits resulting from persistent damage to his organs. Derek was put into a medically induced coma and was known to be the UK’s longest Covid-19 patient after spending more than a year in hospital without the presence of Kate and their two kids. Unfortunately, numerous health complications continued to arise, causing repeated re-admissions due to kidney failure, brain inflammation, and liver damage.

Kate broke the heartbreaking news of Derek’s passing on January 5. She shared: “Derek was surrounded by his family in his final days and I was by his side holding his hand throughout the last long hours and when he passed.” She added that she has much more left to speak about what happened and would do so in time. But for now, she wanted to express her gratitude towards all the medical teams who strove their hardest to help Derek and ensured his last moments were as peaceful and dignified as possible.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
