Privacy NoticeJohn Simm has candidly shared the greatest fear that keeps him up at night after becoming a father of two with his talented co-star wife, Kate Macgowan. The acclaimed Life on Mars actor and the EastEnders star have been a power couple since their sumptuous wedding in April 2004, held in the enchanting Forest of Dean. Their sparks first flew on set, crossing paths professionally in hits like 24 Hour Party People and Is Harry on the Boat?, before they welcomed their bundles of joy – their son Ryan and daughter Molly. However, in a heartfelt reveal last year, John confessed to The Guardian that his most profound dread is “outliving [his] kids and rats.” Interestingly, he also divulged that one of his happiest memories was “after the birth of my children, although Manchester United winning the treble in 1999 came pretty close,” reports Leeds Live. During his stint on the chilling 2018 TV drama Trauma, which dove into the angst-ridden life of a father grappling with grief and fixation over a surgeons fatal error, John found himself consumed by the role’s intensity. He conveyed to The Telegraph his compelling need to reach out to his son amidst filming the harrowing hospital scenes: “I think you have to… to dredge up that kind of emotion… I don’t think you can pretend…

“I would get quite down and have to ring him just to hear his voice. And he got that. He could have just been like, ‘Oh for God’s sake’, but he was like, ‘I’m fine, I’m at home, I’ll see you in a bit’. So I could think, ‘Great, OK, good’. It was really weird.” In a candid interview, John opened up about his deep-seated fears for his children’s safety, confessing: “My son, you know, I think I’m going to be worried for life. I don’t think that is ever going to end.” John also shared his anxieties about aging, revealing his response to the question, “What scares you about getting older?” with a poignant: “That time is running out.”

He expressed his dislike for watching himself age on screen, saying: “The young bits turning old. In my job, I’m forced to watch myself age on screen over many years.” He offered some advice, urging: “Live in the moment. Enjoy life because time cruelly speeds up as you get older and becomes scarily finite.” Reflecting on his past, John reminisced about his brief fling with Spice Girl Emma Bunton, recalling how they met when she was “freaked out” at seeing him, being a long-time fan. Despite asking her out “just for a laugh” they clicked instantly, with John describing Emma as the “sweetest girl imaginable.” However, he found it hard to cope with her level of fame, leading to their eventual split.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
