The 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown host opened up about the profound loss he felt after Sean passed away aged 58 in August 2021. He reminisced about how Sean had been a pillar of support during his most challenging times. Back in 2012, Jimmy faced intense scrutiny for his involvement in a tax avoidance scheme, which he later abandoned and expressed remorse for, labelling it a “terrible error of judgment.” He’s grateful to Sean for being instrumental in reviving his career post-scandal, as he shared with The Guardian: “When that’s happening to you, you never forget the people who were good to you. And he was so good to me. He said: “Are you OK? All right, we’ll handle this.

“And then he went out there, was super funny about it, no judgment.” Jimmy credits Sean for helping him find humour in the situation, despite maintaining that his actions were ‘entirely legal’, and navigate through the difficult period. Sean had quipped at the time: “We all like to put a bit of money away for a rainy day, but I think you’re more prepared than Noah.” Feeling a moral obligation, Jimmy settled the taxes he owed, stating: “I was publicly shamed for tax avoidance and it was very clear what I had to do: say sorry and pay it back. I didn’t have to…. “It was as if I’d been on PAYE all the way through. I did that, and then people took the p**s, which is the modern equivalent of being in the stocks. I took a tomato to the face from Sean Lock.” Reflecting on their time together on 8 out of 10 Cats, Jimmy also believes that their chemistry turned them into somewhat of a comedic duo.

He quipped: “After he died I looked back and went: ‘Hang on – was I in a double act?’ We did 250 TV shows together and I sort of didn’t notice. “I mean, I don’t think he’d view me as a comedy partner. He’d say: ‘Get over yourself I’m much funnier.'” Sean passed away in August 2021 after a battle with cancer, with Off The Kerb Productions announcing: ‘It is with great sadness that we have to announce the death of Sean Lock. “He died at home from cancer, surrounded by his family. Sean was one of Britain’s finest comedians, his boundless creativity, lightning wit and the absurdist brilliance of his work, marked him out as a unique voice in British comedy. “Sean was also a cherished husband and father to three children. Sean will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
