Privacy NoticeJeremy Clarkson, the iconic TV presenter, has made a surprising discovery at his newly purchased Cotswolds’ pub, The Windmill. The former Top Gear host reportedly shelled out “less than £1 million” for the charming pub, which is tucked away in five acres of lush Oxfordshire countryside near Burford. Interestingly, the 64 year old revealed that the pub’s location was once a popular spot for dogging. Taking to Instagram on Tuesday evening (July 9), Jeremy shared a short video clip revealing his shocking find to his whopping 8.3 million followers. In the clip, he quips: “Tell me you bought a pub on a dogging site without telling me you bought a pub on a dogging site.” The video shows Jeremy holding up a pair of women’s knickers with a stick, pulling a face of pure disgust. The post quickly racked up more than 110,000 likes and over 1,000 comments in just three hours.

His fans found the situation hilarious, with one suggesting: “Rename the pub The Dog Inn”. Another joked: “Bet that was left there as a cruel joke by James May”, while a third cheekily asked: “This is terrible! Please tell me the exact location, time and dates, so I know to avoid missing it.” Jeremy plans to start renovations soon and hopes to have the pub open by Christmas. He recently teased an update on Instagram, saying: “New pub coming along. Only the water, gas, lavatories, staff and electrics to sort and we’ll be ready to go.” The TV host reportedly purchased the freehold to the pub, which isn’t tied to a brewery. This means he can sell his own beer and farm produce at the venue, located just ten miles from Diddly Squat Farm.

Jackie Walker, 79, who opened the pub with her late husband Alan Walker in 1983, hadn’t planned to sell it. She was taken aback when Jeremy expressed interest, leading to a deal being finalised within minutes of their meeting. Jackie revealed that a film crew arrived at the pub and the “next thing” she knew, someone associated with Jeremy knocked on her door asking if she wanted to sell. She was invited to meet Jeremy at his home in a nearby village to discuss potential terms. Recalling their conversation, she said: “The first thing Jeremy said to me was I suppose you want a lot of money for this.” He made an immediate offer that exceeded her expectations, which she accepted straight away. Jackie admitted that his approach made her “laugh”, but added, “it is Jeremy after all.”

According to Jackie, they met for coffee at his house where she brought maps of the property. She described Jeremy and his partner Lisa Hogan as “charming,” and confessed she “really liked them”. Despite not initially planning to sell, she wasn’t happy with how the pub was being run and acknowledged, “I had not been planning to sell the place, but I wasn’t that happy with how it was being run and I am not getting any younger.” Jackie revealed that she stopped serving drinks in 2013 after her husband Alan passed away at the age of 73, and let leaseholders run the pub. Jeremy is said to have bought out the remaining five years on that lease from Barry and Vanessa Eason, a couple who were the leaseholders, when he put pen to paper. The Easons reportedly moved out last month.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
