Privacy NoticeJeremy Clarkson has reassured fans that he’s “fine” after a recent heart surgery scare. The former Top Gear host, 64, revealed over the weekend that he had experienced worrying symptoms while on holiday, leading to an emergency hospital visit in the UK where he underwent a procedure to unblock his arteries. Now, with a touch of his trademark humour, he’s expressed gratitude for the support and quipped that the operation is his ticket out of doing chores, telling The Sun: “I’m very grateful to everyone who sent supportive messages but I’m fine. I just have to not do any manual labour or dishwasher emptying for the next four years. At least I think that’s what the doctor said.”

In his column for The Sunday Times, Jeremy detailed the frightening health episode, admitting that doctors said he was “maybe” days away from death. The Clarkson’s Farm star described how he felt “weak” during his vacation, struggling to swim or climb stairs, saying: “It wasn’t far, maybe the length of two swimming pools. But when I finally reached the beach, there was more water in my lungs than there is in Lake Superior, and I was mostly dead … I’m not exaggerating. These problems all manifested themselves in one day.” After returning to the UK and while on his Cotswolds farm, Jeremy experienced a tingling sensation in his arm and “tightness” in his chest, leading to trip to hospital via ambulance where he underwent a medical procedure to clear his blocked arteries. He said: “It seems that of the arteries feeding my heart with nourishing blood, one was completely blocked and the second of three was heading that way.” He explained that a stent, which can save lives and stop future heart attacks through improving blood flow to the heart, was fitted in around two hours.

Jeremy added: “It wasn’t especially painful. Just odd,” and added that he has been thinking: “Crikey, that was close.” The star concluded by saying he was “wondering what water tastes like and if it’s possible to make celery interesting” following the health scare, as he seemed to consider lessening his meat intake. He has previously revealed he had to quit smoking after contracting pneumonia on holiday in Spain. Last month Jeremy, Richard Hammond and James May left their show The Grand Tour behind on Prime Video. Jeremy has continued to present Clarkson’s Farm, which covers him running his Oxfordshire farm, on Prime Video, as well as Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? on ITV. He recently opened a pub, called The Farmer’s Dog, in Asthall, near Burford, close to where he lives near Chipping Norton.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
