Privacy NoticeTV presenter Jeff Brazier is taking his younger son Freddie on an epic adventure as part of BBC’s Celebrity Race Across the World – as the pair aim to travel from the Amazon Rainforest to the Andes mountains in just five weeks. Racing against three other famous pairs, the duo must cross 12,500km to get to the final checkpoint with a small budget, no phone, no wallet and a tight deadline. Jeff has opened up asking 19 year old Freddie to take on the BBC show with him – and explained that he didn’t want to take his famous son Bobby, 21, after one hilariously disastrous trek on a Scottish holiday. Speaking to OK! in an exclusive chat, Jeff said that his EastEnders star son isn’t the best with tough terrains. “No disrespect to Bob, but I had more confidence going with Fred,” he says. “Bobby is more stubborn and less willing in terms of how much discomfort he’ll put himself through.”

He added: “Once upon a time, I decided while we were in Scotland to climb a mountain with my children. I hired a guy called Tristan and the brief for the day was to take us up somewhere off the beaten path. It was pouring down. “We were climbing up the side of the mountain and halfway up, Bobby decides, ‘Right, I’m done.’ The guide was like, ‘The only way off is up and over.’ I immediately felt the scorn and judgement from him,” Jeff laughed. “But Freddie, just got on with it. Bob sulked his way up and over.” Jeff added that Freddie’s perseverance on the trip made him realise that he was perfect for Celebrity Race Across the World. “Fred supported Bob for the majority of the journey and didn’t complain – that’s how I knew Fred would be good on the show. He lacks faith and confidence in his own ability to overcome hurdles – I saw Race as an opportunity for him to disprove that,” he said.

He added: “It’s also why I didn’t put Bob forward for it. He sacks off the mountain after five minutes and sulks for about four hours.” While Bobby may not be a fan of mountain treks, he quickly shot to fame in the acting world – having landed the role of Freddie Slater on EastEnders back in 2022. He went onto compete on Strictly Come Dancing and finished as a runner-up with professional Dianne Buswell, and has recently landed a role in crime drama Curfew with Sarah Parish and Mandip Gill. On Celebrity Race Across the World, Jeff and Freddie compete against DJ Scott Mills and his husband Sam Vaughan, presenter Kelly Brook and her husband Jeremy Parisi, and Ted Lasso’s Kola Bokinni and his cousin Mary Ellen on the show, as they attempt to be the first duo to reach the Andes from the Amazon Rainforest. Celebrity Race Across the World airs Wednesday 14th August at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
