Privacy NoticeA new ITV game show has been plunged into chaos on Wednesday 17 July after three contestants were rushed to hospital needing treatment following a challenge during filming. The programme, called 99 To Beat, is a Squid Game-inspired challenge show in which 100 contestants go head to head in a series of tasks with the ultimate goal to become the last person standing and winner of the grand prize. The show, presented by brothers Adam and Ryan Thomas, reportedly went wrong during a challenge in which the contestants had to dive into a 20ft pile of hay. However, some contestants had an “allergic reaction” due to the hay, and it has also been claimed that one person also suffered a head injury after collapsing in the toilets. A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service said: “We were called this morning to Shinfield to reports of people who had become unwell. We sent to the scene a number of ambulance resources to assess patients. Three patients were taken to hospital for further treatment to non-life threatening issues, and others were assessed at the scene but did not require hospital treatment.” Sign up to OK’s TV newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

A spokesman for the production company Banijay told OK!: “A small number of contestants received medical attention after having an adverse reaction to hay, while participating in a game to retrieve chopsticks from a large haystack. Filming was temporarily suspended and is due to resume later this week. Contributor welfare remains our top priority, and our established robust health and safety processes are regularly reviewed and assessed.” A risk assessment had been completed beforehand and the game was deemed low risk. All contestants were required to wear goggles for the duration of the game and an on-site medic was present and able to quickly assist people, OK! has learned. 99 To Beat is already a successful format in countries including Norway, Poland, Germany and the Netherlands. Challenges in other editions of the show include finding a dummy in a vat of jelly or putting on a frozen stiff t-shirt, with the person who comes last in each challenge being sent home.

Brothers Ryan and Adam Thomas were announced as hosts of the UK version of the show in June this year. At the time, Adam said: “It’s our first gig together. I don’t think we’ve ever worked together before so to be doing a show like this called 99 To Beat and to be hosting, is definitely a dream come true. We just can’t believe it, it’s been a long time coming and it’s finally happened.” “And we get to present a new family gameshow for ITV and yeah, it just doesn’t get bigger and better than that. It’s a brand new concept, it’s not been done before over in the UK and we’re just so happy we get to front it. It’s going to be a fun one. It’s one of those gameshows that anyone can do. Even people at home can get involved, it’s that good,” he told the Mirror. Katy Manley, managing director of Initial, part of production company Banijay, said: “I’m really excited about bringing this format to the UK. It’s so warm, funny and unique – we’re looking forward to finding some brilliant contestants, and to working with Adam and Ryan who will bring their fantastic chemistry and contagious energy to the show.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
