Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid had to pause the ITV show to issue a “correction” from her former co-host Ben Shephard, after the This Morning presenter spotted a significant blunder. In today’s episode, Susanna and Richard Madeley were chatting with Anton Du Beke about his new golf podcast when Susanna brought up her friend and former colleague Ben Shephard’s golf handicap. When Richard queried about it, Susanna guessed: “Is it about 15?” However, as the show progressed, Susanna had to halt proceedings to share a message from Ben himself. “Ben Shephard has got in touch,” she announced. Reading his message aloud, she relayed: “”I expect a correction. I play golf off seven, not 15 – which has taken a lot of pain and tears and swearing. I am fuming downstairs downstairs,’ says Ben.”

Lorraine Kelly, who was on the GMB couch discussing her upcoming programme, asked: “Was that when you were talking to Anton Du Beke?” Richard responded with a light-hearted: “Yes. Don’t sue us,” reports the Mirror. Susanna chimed in with a jesting: “We impugned his golf handicap, didn’t we? The record is corrected, don’t sue us Ben Shephard.” Ben used to share the Good Morning Britain hosting duties with Susanna and Kate Garraway before he transitioned to This Morning last year, where he now presents alongside Cat Deeley. During his appearance on the show, Anton Du Beke finally addressed the buzz around Giovanni Pernice’s potential return to Strictly Come Dancing while he was there to discuss golf. Richard couldn’t resist probing about Anton’s stance on Giovanni coming back to the BBC dance floor despite last year’s controversy. “It’s been reported that you personally would welcome Giovanni Pernice back onto Strictly,” Richard inquired. “We know that the BBC upheld six bullying complaints against him, didn’t uphold others, but you would welcome him back. That’s sticking your head above the parapet. Why would you do that?” Anton responded with poise, “That’s a very good question,” and swiftly steered the conversation towards more comfortable territory. “I’d prefer to be talking about the golf. I was delighted for Giovanni this autumn because he went over to Italy and did the Strictly Come Dancing there and he won with the brilliant Bianca [actress Bianca Guaccero].” He continued to express his excitement about their upcoming tour, “He was delighted to win that and we’re going off on tour this summer so I’ll be seeing him when we go back out on the road.” Anton concluded with warmth, “I love being on stage with him and performing with him and I’ve known him a long time. We’ve got a wonderful company as well, so all in all, it’s a great show.”
