Privacy NoticeEmmerdale’s Emma Atkins has opened up about the difficulty of watching the soap’s latest coercive control storyline involving Tom King and Belle Dingle. The seasoned actress, who has been portraying the iconic Charity Dingle for nearly a quarter of a century, has been part of some of the ITV soap’s most gripping plots since she joined back in the year 2000. In scenes yet to air, Charity and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) make a chilling discovery as they become concerned for Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) as she leaves the village with her husband Tom (James Chase), reports the Express.

Charity and Cain are left in utter shock when they find Belle’s (Eden Taylor-Draper) Welsh cottage in complete disarray during a visit, with blood on the walls and no sign of Belle. The pair immediately fear the worst, but has Tom harmed Belle and where are they? Emma Atkins, who first graced the Dales in 2000, spoke candidly about reuniting on-screen with Jeff Hordley: “It was brilliant and working with Jeff again was just magic because I haven’t worked with him in quite a while and we just seem to have this effortless chemistry when we get together because we know each other, we know our history and our characters somehow really work together.” She added: “It’s great that we’re not a couple but we come together in a crisis. We trust each other and I love the fact that Cain does listen to Charity and I just loved it.”

Emma continued by sharing that fans have been expressing how tough it has become to watch the controlling storyline between Tom and Belle, confessing she too has felt “uncomfortable” viewing some scenes. She expressed: “I’ve spoken to people who are times struggling to watch it because of the nature of it which is amazing because it shows how powerful it is. I felt so uncomfortable to continue watching at one point so I guess It’s delivering in that way.” Viewers have been urging for characters Charity and Cain to unite against Tom for quite a while now, yet Emma remained cautious when asked if her persona will be the one to bring down the culprit. “I think the fact Charity has experienced level of abuse she recognises the signs and she’s got her eye on him,” she said.
