Privacy NoticePrince Harry, 39, and Meghan Markle, 43, are on a four-day tour of Columbia, intending to teach young people how to combat cyberbullying and raise awareness about mental health. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were welcomed at the home of Vice President Francia Márquez in the heart of Bogotá on Thursday, with the couple arriving “hand in hand”. As their whistlestop tour of the South American country gets underway, a leading royal expert has addressed how it’s “easy to poke fun” at the couple, but she insisted their work is “to be applauded”. Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond exclusively told OK!: “It’s becoming their signature look…arriving hand in hand, Harry looking pretty casual, Meghan looking sharp, stylish and glamorous. “So far it has all the hallmarks of a quasi-royal tour… An official welcome from the VP (a slight downgrade on a presidential welcome), a cultural event to follow… And then the serious business of the discussions about online dangers for children. ”It’s all too easy to poke fun at them for doing this semi-royal stuff after they fled the life of working royals in the UK, but they are making us talk about the dangers of the internet to our children and looking for solutions. And that has to be applauded.” Jennie continued: “There will also be a visit to an early African American settlement with opportunities for Meghan to address colonial issues and the slave trade, which she is well placed to do.”

The royal expert went on to stress she is “a bit tired of everyone pulling Harry and Meghan apart”. She said: “They are doing things their way, they seem to have stopped attacking the Royal Family so openly. “We don’t have to publicise what they do or say…. But the fact is they are still making headlines and – for the most part – they are using their platform to improve the lives of others.” The couple’s united front in Columbia comes days after their chief of staff, Josh Kettler, dramatically quit earlier this week, after just three months in the role.

The PR expert started working with Harry before his and Meghan’s three-day Nigeria tour in May. However, Josh stepped away from the position just months later which was set to “guide him [Harry] through his next phase”. Insiders have claimed his decision to step down from the role was a “mutual decision”. Jennie previously told us: “The timing of this resignation is definitely very awkward, with the Colombia visit about to kick off.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
