Whether it’s candid confessions about their bedroom escapades or fiery arguments that see them threatening to leave their marriage, fans have heard it all. BBC Radio 1 presenter Jamie, 36, is currently participating in a gruelling 150-mile run for Comic Relief from London to Salford, with his wife of nearly two years, Sophie, 30, offering her full support. But it wasn’t love at first sight for the pair. Before they became a couple, they were just best friends. However, their budding romance soon came to light with heartwarming scenes unfolding on Made in Chelsea in 2019, reports the Mirror.

They got engaged in December 2021 and officially said ‘I do’ on 14 April 2023, in a cosy ceremony at Chelsea Town Hall in South West London. This was followed by a second, more lavish wedding ceremony in Marbella, Spain, on 19 May, with around 200 guests present. As the presenter and Candy Kittens founder continues his epic run, we’ve delved deeper into their marriage – the highs, the lows and all the funny stories in between… Threats of walking out Jamie and Sophie’s journey to the altar hasn’t been all smooth sailing. Just one day prior to their nuptials, the dynamic duo dropped a bombshell in their podcast NewlyWeds teaser trailer. Jamie sparked concern as he warned fans that he might call it quits on their marriage within a year. Sophie revealed: “Once he said, when we had a fight, he said ‘ugh I’ve got to be married to you for at least a year’.” To which Jamie candidly responded, “Yeah, it’s true. If it was before a year, everyone would be like ‘well that was short’. A year, then you’re like ‘that’s alright.'”. The plot thickens as the couple previously faced similar drama. On an episode of Newlyweds, Sophie shared with her listeners a rather tense moment: “When Jamie’s really, really angry with me, when we have had the worst fight ever, what he does is he’ll come in and he’ll go, ‘Sophie – I’m leaving you’.

“And he does it, maybe, I’d say twice a year. And he’ll be like ‘I don’t want you to react. But there’s no point in talking to me. I am leaving you. And I, I’ve got my backpack and I’m going’ and I go, ‘all right’.” Commitment fear Even with over five years together, Jamie has confessed his apprehension about fully settling down and starting a family. Opening up on his podcast, Great Company, about the thought of having little ones, he revealed: “I would really like to have one, but it has been a real long road because I was really scared of babies and I was really scared of commitment.” Jamie has been brutally honest about his fears of fatherhood, confessing to a certain terror when it comes to the permanence of parenting. He said: “The idea of not being able to escape something, with work or even divorce, there’s always a way out. But with a baby there’s no way out. There is no way out because you are committed to that little human forever and that for me is really quite scary.” He admitted that the anxiety was so overwhelming that he had to step away from work when they had a pregnancy scare as he shared: “[It’s] still really scary, it is a real fear. To the point where at the start of last year, Sophie thought she was pregnant and I had to leave the restaurant because I was so stressed.”

Jamie previously confessed to being ‘lazy’ in the bedroom

Bedroom confessions When it comes to the more intimate aspects of marriage, Jamie’s confessions continue as he acknowledges his lacklustre efforts, claiming to be “lazy” in the bedroom. He told The Sun: “Sophie did say I was bog standard at sex and that is probably a fair description. You get worse as you get married. You become lazy.” Jamie also pointed out: “I used to start doing joined-up handwriting then I thought, ‘I can’t be bothered with that as it’s quicker for me to not do it joined up’, I’m a bit like that in the bedroom. I don’t give up half way but I do remember that once I rolled on top of Sophie and she said, ‘Oh, get on with it’.” Marriage counselling As for nurturing their relationship, Jamie and Sophie have shown a commitment to keeping things running smoothly. Recounting past conversations, Jamie revealed that they regularly attend marriage counselling sessions and shared why it’s become important for them. He stated: “I said to Sophie, ‘Look, 40 or 50 per cent of marriages end in divorce, I think it’ll be really good to do,’ so we still go every other week and I think therapy brings self-awareness.” He praised the benefits of therapy and said: “It opens you up and makes you more empathetic. It makes you basically not become a sociopath and it allows you to have another opinion.”

Sophie gushed about keeping the spark alive in her marriage and shared: “We love finding fun new ways to spend time together,” and highlighting the importance of being attentive, with “And always making sure that we’re present in each other’s company.” Jamie chimed in with his own secret to a happy relationship: “For me, it’s lots of laughter, trying new things and making your partner feel special every day. You don’t need an excuse to bring home flowers or a token of your affection.
