“It’s been such a blessing to have been a part of such an iconic show that I grew up on and loved by so many! ! #Journeys.” Prior to her onscreen debut, the actress couldn’t contain her joy about joining the Yorkshire-based hit. Revealing her reaction, she described it as a “dream”. She said: “I literally dropped to my knees and let out a few expletives, as you do. I was absolutely over the moon and overjoyed. What actor from Yorkshire doesn’t want to work on Emmerdale?,” Martelle reminisced, reports the Mirror. “I think it’s one of those dream jobs. I am from Yorkshire and I live in Leeds and it’s just on my doorstep, it’s perfect! My feet haven’t quite touched the ground yet, I’m still on this massive cloud high up in the sky, but it’s been going really, really good. “It’s just like a family, and it sounds so cliché but it really is and everyone is so lovely and welcoming and helps you settle in really nicely.” Before landing her role in Emmerdale, Martelle had a number of acting jobs under her belt, including a part in the 2020 short film The Tooth Fairy. Additionally, she has graced the screen in shows like Cold Feet, Hollyoaks, and Coronation Street. The actress also shared her experience with a subarachnoid haemorrhage in 2020, a rare kind of stroke that the NHS warns can be fatal. In 2023, Martelle updated her followers on her recovery post-surgery concerning the existing brain aneurysm. Her message to fans read: “A few weeks ago I was told an existing brain aneurysm thought to always be tiny and stable had in fact always been of a size that needed treatment. Not sure where the error occurred for it to take so long to highlight this but despite the initial shock, I could only receive it as a blessing and refused to allow it manifest into fear, stress and anxiety.”

Martelle also shared her heartfelt gratitude after undergoing life-saving surgery, saying: “Yesterday, I had surgery where Dr’s were able to amazingly and successfully treat the aneurysm, placing a flow diverter in the artery to cut the off the blood supply to it, soon enabling it disappear for good!” She continued with immense appreciation for the medical team: “This is me post surgery. Peace signs at the readyyy! I can’t tell you how happy and blessed I felt/feel right now! Massive, MASSIVE thank you to all the incredible @NHSuk Dr’s, nurses and support staff, you are Amazing! and I am TRULY grateful to you all.” Then, celebrating her “Life Day” four years on from her health scare in 2024, Martelle took to Instagram to share her journey of recovery. She posted a throwback hospital photo, reflecting: “Happy Life Day to Meee! 2/2/2020 Today marks 4 years since I suffered and survived a subarachnoid haemorrhage caused by a ruptured aneurysm The survival rates of a ruptured aneurysm are pretty bleak and so every year I celebrate just how blessed and lucky I am to still be here.” She also detailed her challenging path back to health: “My journey back to self hasn’t been an easy one, suffering and 2nd SAH in 2021, getting diagnosed with a rare vascular disease as the root cause and undergoing preventive surgery last year to treat another aneurysm…BUT my arse still here…growing and glowing and so so GRATEFUL! ! ” She concluded with a toast to life: “Here’s to more life, more love and more blessings #LifeDay #Blessed #Guided #Protected #Journeys #Growing #Glowing #Grateful.” As Martelle begins her new chapter after leaving Emmerdale, fans have been rallying around her with kind words. “I actually thought the next ep might’ve showed that Liam had got it wrong, but obviously not! Gutted that you’ve left, Suzy was criminally underused, and I wish we were continuing her story! Onwards and upwards always, hope to see you onscreen again soon! Lotsa love to you,” wrote one. “Nooooo…. I had wanted to see you and Mary get together. All the best wishes in your new chapter.. Suzy will be missed,” another fan added.
