Privacy Notice Real life couple Emma and Matt Willis are the perfect hosts for the new UK version of Netflix’s hit dating series Love Is Blind, not only because they are happily married themselves, but also because they love watching people fall in love. “I always set up my friends,” says Emma. “I don’t really have many single friends now but I am always on the lookout for my friends that are single, I love matchmaking. I’m not very good at it but I like seeing people who want to settle down, meet someone and be happy.” They both believe that the series, which started on Netflix on Wednesday 7 August, works because it offers a different way of dating for people sick of online dating where people are judged by their appearance. “I think people are just sick of the dating world, so why not do this as it sucks the other way,” Emma says. “Or they’ve been unsuccessful with it,” adds Matt. “They’ve been burned by it so they come to the show with a real openness to explore this experiment.” Sign up to OK’s TV newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

The couple married in 2008 after Matt proposed to Emma while on holiday in Venice. He originally planned to pop the question in a restaurant, but a group of English tourists at the next table recognised that he was a member of the band Busted, so instead he waited until they were outside, walking by the romantic Rialto Bridge. “I was about to get down on one knee when Emma grabbed me and said: ‘Don’t. You. Dare,’” he remembers. “I whispered: ‘Will you marry me?’ and she said ‘Yes, but don’t get down on one knee because everybody will look!’”

Sixteen years later they are still in love, and living in a sprawling home with their three children, Isabelle, 15, Ace, 12, and Trixie, who is eight. During the Covid lockdown of 2020, the couple shared a glimpse of their life together on social media, helping to home school the children from their long white dinner table, surrounded by comfy looking pink velvet chairs, while another photo revealed their white wooden kitchen with a striking blue island unit in the centre and stone floors. Their photos also showed their living and dining area, with dark framed doors leading out to their large and pretty garden, and the white family piano that takes pride of place in the house, alongside musician Matt’s other instruments. Emma has also shared a photo of a relaxing corner of the house where she has a lime green sofa directly under a window looking out into the garden.

Of course, TV fans have also had a peek at their living room when Matt and Emma appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox, comfortable on their large midnight blue coloured sofa covered with scatter cushions while watching the week’s hit shows. As well as appearing on Celebrity Gogglebox and Love Is Blind together, the pair have their own individual projects, with 48 year old Emma recently presenting Cooking With The Stars with Tom Allen, and Matt continuing to perform with Busted as well as hosting the podcast On The Mend, in which he recently spoke about his ADHD diagnosis.
