Privacy NoticeLove Is Blind UK hosts Emma and Matt Willis have candidly opened up about their 15-year marriage, which has seen its fair share of challenges. Matt, who is 41, has bravely tackled his demons, spending time in rehab for alcohol and drug addictions. His wife Emma, a familiar face on This Morning at 48, revealed the simple yet powerful secret behind their lasting bond: “We quite like each other”. The couple shared insights into their relationship during an appearance on ITV’s Good Morning Britain with hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard. Over the years Matt has been open with the public about his battles and demons – which Emma has been a rock through. He told the hosts that they had come through tough times and had remained strong. He said: “Most marriages go through rocky patches and ups and downs and luckily we’ve come out the other side of those and it’s just made us stronger.” To which his wife responded: “We quite like each other still as well, which helps. We still laugh at each other, and we still get annoyed with each other… he’s alright!”

“Who really knows what the key to a long marriage is other than hard work and patience… on both sides, this is not just one-sided. “We quite like each other still as well, which helps. We still laugh at each other, and we still get annoyed with each other… he’s alright!” The former Celebrity Big Brother presenter also touched on the importance of “patience” in maintaining a strong partnership, while The Voice star Matt emphasised the need for mutual effort. He said: “Who really knows what the key to a long marriage is other than hard work and patience… on both sides, this is not just one-sided. “And I suppose understanding, and communication and trying to understand the other person’s point of view which is something we’ve always tried to do.” Matt last relapsed in 2016, when he would sneak out of the family home each day to snort 6g of cocaine. Eventually, he confessed to his wife Emma that he had returned to drug use. He admitted that her friends had warned her to “get out while she still could”, reports the Express. Reflecting on that time, Matt said: “I thought she would leave me many, many times, and I was involved in some of those times when people were saying that It’s always hard to hear other people telling your wife to get out, but understandably at the time. “I dread to imagine where I’d be without her. I’m thankful for her in so many ways.”

But Emma stood by him, telling the Telegraph: “I wasn’t going to leave him because he had a problem. I wanted to help him, but he had to help himself and I believed he would.” He opened up about his struggles in his own BBC documentary, Matt Willis: Fighting Addiction – where he laid bare his lifelong battle with addiction. His struggles began after he shot to fame at the age of 19 and felt overwhelmed by the pressures of the industry. Emma was praised for standing by her husband during her raw and honest appearance. However, the TV star admitted that she was initially hesitant to appear in the show. Chatting with Lorraine, Matt revealed that he has “certain things” he does to aid his ongoing recovery and confessed he felt “selfish” for putting himself first. However, he makes a daily effort to avoid the temptation of alcohol or drugs. He expressed: ‘I’m always a bit worried about relapsing, it’s a chronically relapsing thing, addiction.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
