Privacy NoticeViewers have been glued to Stefan Moffat’s brand-new ITV drama Douglas Is Cancelled, starring Hugh Boneville and Karen Gillan. The four-part comedy drama revolves around a beloved news presenter, Douglas Bellowes (played by Hugh) who finds himself in the midst of a cancel culture storm after making a sexist joke at a wedding. Scottish beauty Karen plays Madeline, Douglas’ younger TV co-host who pretends to be part of a team in front of him, but it’s clear she’s playing her own game from the start. Not only is she more adept at social media than Douglas, she’s also hell-bent on advancing her career by any means necessary. Karen has been a television star for years, and here are the secrets to how she transformed her body with one key change.
Karen transformed her body with one simple change
In previous interviews Karen has revealed that she has suffered from anxiety if she doesn’t take care of herself. And it’s increased when she hasn’t been motivated to be active, or keep an eye on her diet. Talking to the Mirror a few years ago, Karen explained that during the pandemic, she ‘couldn’t’ work out and went on to say, “I felt like a slug”. She said: “I’m usually very driven. I didn’t realise how much better I felt mentally [with exercise] until I stopped. I didn’t feel as on top of the world as I normally do if I’m regularly working out and eating well.”
Karen revealed she felt like a ‘slug’ during the pandemic
In an interview with The Guardian, Karen revealed that going on to star in action movies, like Jumanji, has helped her eat healthier and that change has impacted her body massively. “That sort of changed my life because I’d never worked out before. I’d never eaten healthily in my life. I didn’t know how to do it. “I would happily eat McDonald’s, chocolate, crisps, Tesco sandwiches. It wasn’t healthy at all. I can’t believe the way I used to go on.” Karen also stays healthy through exercise like weight training, stair climbs and martial arts training. While training for Gunpowder Milkshake, Karen had to box every day because the director didn’t want to use stunt doubles for some fight scenes.
Karen is currently starring in a new ITV drama
Karen is known for her role as Amy Pond, the primary companion of the 11th Doctor Who, played by Matt Smith during his stint on the BBC sci-fi drama back in 2010. Some of her other roles include parts in The Bubble, Sleeping Dogs, X, Oculus, Late Bloomers and as Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
