Privacy NoticeHelen Worth has been a staple to our TV screens for five decades, thanks to her role as Gail Platt in ITV’s Coronation Street. The actress is one of the soap’s longest-serving stars, and it’s safe to say she’s become a Weatherfield icon. Helen, 73, has taken on some huge storylines as Gail over the years, with the character’s numerous failed marriages being at the heart of many plot twists. Gail has struggled to find her happy ever after, but Helen’s love life is much different to her soap persona’s. The Coronation Street star married her husband Trevor Dawson – who is seven years her junior – back in 2013. The couple have remained happily married ever since.

Helen exchanged vows with Trevor, who is a school teacher, at St James Church in central London surrounded by their loved ones. Afterwards, the newlyweds hosted a lavish reception at the Ritz hotel. Blushing bride Helen work a silver silk gown by Bruce Oldfield and carried a stunning bouquet of pink, purple and white tulips. Trevor wore a black suit paired with a silver tie to match Helen’s bridal gown. Among the guests were many soap favourites, such as Samia Ghadie, Alan Halsall, Lucy Jo Hudson, Alison King, Barbara Knox, Ryan Thomas, Malcolm Hebden and Michelle Collins. Other stars in attendance included Simon Gregson, Kate Ford and Jack P. Shepherd. “It’s been the most fantastic day, it has exceeded all expectations,” Helen said at the time. “We are thrilled that so many of our friends and family could be here to celebrate with us.”

Two hundred well-wishers greeted Helen and Trevor as they emerged from their ceremony. Guests were transported to the Ritz on two traditional red London buses. At the venue, they tucked into afternoon tea and champagne. Trevor proposed to Helen in 2012 after around a year of dating. The couple had kept their romance under wraps for over a year. Prior to marrying Trevor, Helen was married to actor Michael Angelis. The pair wed in January 1991 but eventually divorced in 2001 due to Michael being unfaithful to Helen. Earlier this year, Helen made an announcement that she’d be departing from Coronation Street before 2024 draws to a close, with soap bosses revealing Gail would “bid farewell to Weatherfield in a major storyline for the Platt family”. Sharing her sentiment through a statement, she expressed: “I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding. I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew. The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
