Privacy NoticeCasualty’s Melanie Hill endured a “painful” split from her first husband before going on to marry again 20 years later. The 62-year-old joined the BBC medical drama earlier this year as no-nonsense clinical nurse manager Siobhan MacKenzie. She will also be recognised as Hazel Redfern in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Cathy Matthews in Coronation Street for seven years and then as Avril Kent in Emmerdale. But it isn’t just her on-screen roles that have piqued fans’ interest as Melanie has gone through some difficult times away from the cameras. A particularly challenging time for the actress was when she parted ways with her first husband actor Sean Bean.

Renowned for starring in Game Of Thrones, The Lord Of The Rings and Troy, Sean first met Melanie while they were training at RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art). The stars got married in December 1990 and had two daughters Lorna and Molly, before divorcing after 15 years together, in 1997. She previously opened up about their breakup with reports of his drinking getting in the way of their relationship. “The most important thing out of it all is the children – we don’t want them hurt,” Melanie told the Daily Record. “That is why neither of us has talked to the press, despite what you might have read. “That sort of thing is upsetting – or it can be if you let it. We just want to get through this thing as privately and with as much dignity as we can. “I love Sean because he gave me my children and I will always love him. “We had 15 years together. I deeply respect the man and I want him to be happy. He feels the same way about me and that is pretty much it.”

This wasn’t the end of Melanie’s love story though as she went on to marry writer and producer husband Jim Daly at the Victoria Stakes pub in Muswell Hill in 2017. Their paths first crossed in 1996 when he was directing When Saturday Comes, a film starring Melanie and her then-husband Sean. It was in 2005 that Melanie said she didn’t think she would marry again but considered “having more children” when she and Jim first got together. On her second wedding day, Melanie opted to go for a more daring outfit with a leopard print coat, black trousers and a white shirt, as well as a pair of Doc Martens.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
