Wardrobe mishap Host David Tennant kicked off the 2025 BAFTA Film Awards with a thrilling monologue. However, unaired footage captured technical difficulties right from the start, reports the Mirror. Just as he began, his mic cord slipped out from under his kilt. “We’ll cut that bit out,” he quipped to the audience – which is precisely what happened when the show aired later on BBC.

Swearing Emilia Perez star Zoe Saldana scooped the supporting actress BAFTA and couldn’t hide her elation, calling the win “so validating” and “a true honour”. She gushed: “This was a creative challenge of a lifetime, how do you begin to even approach a film that just defies categorisation, and you start by taking the lead of (director) Jacques Audiard.” However, the actress swore after she was given a countdown during her speech. Zoe blurted out “f**k, f**k, f**k” before continuing: “Films are supposed to change hearts and challenge minds and I hope Emilia Perez did something like this, because voices need to be heard, just not my English accent.” While the awards coverage tactfully omitted her expletive-laden ending, it did capture her exiting the stage. Donald Trump dig Host David Tennant made a splash during his opening monologue. Making his entrance to The Proclaimers’ anthem I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), he quipped about his lengthy journey to host “walked 500 miles just to host one BAFTAs more.” He also made a sly nod to Trump while talking about The Brutalist, praising it as “a film about incredible architecture. In fact, it’s the boldest architecture in film this year, apart from Donald Trump’s hair in The Apprentice.” He then cheekily suggested that despite the biopic featuring Sebastian Stan as the mogul, it’s doubtful Trump has seen it. “It’s a 15 and it’s not on Nickelodeon,” David joked, drawing giggles from the audience. He continued with a quip about the former US president: “Donald Trump… I’m worried. I’ve said his name three times. It’s like Beetlejuice – I’ve summoned him.” But the jests didn’t stop there as he said: “Talking of villains…We’ve got many this year, not just Nosferatu.”
