Privacy NoticeOlympic champion Adam Peaty has opened up about the life-changing impact Gordon Ramsay had on his personal and professional life. The 29 year old swimmer credited the celeb chef for drawing him out of a “deep, dark hole” following a tough period marked by depression and alcohol issues. Adam endured a challenging time post his defeat at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, a stint that saw the end of an impressive eight-year winning streak. This personal low coincided with his split from the mother of his child and sent him spiralling into a difficult phase of his life which he described as “three years of hell”.

However, things started to look up for Adam when a new love interest entered the scene, none other than Holly Ramsay, daughter of the notorious culinary genius Gordon. The pair first crossed paths on BBC’s hit show Strictly Come Dancing back in 2021, which eventually led to a life-changing romance, reports the Mirror. As he stepped into Gordon’s life, Adam credits the eight-star Michelin maestro for playing a pivotal part in his recovery, steering him away from a life of excess back to his world-class athlete form. In an intimate tell-all with The Sunday Times in April 2024, Adam highlighted Gordon’s mentorship and inspirational work ethic. He shared: “He [Ramsay] is an incredible energy to be around and an incredible person to have that guidance from. Gordon is a high performer.” The star swimmer didn’t just draw inspiration from Gordon’s success story; he also tapped into the chef’s no-nonsense approach to his craft, embracing it into his training mindset. Championing Gordon’s uncompromising standards and work philosophy, Adam reflected, “He worked his way up to the upper echelons of his industry and works in a place where there’s no bulls**t. I take a lot from that and from the professionalism he has every single day with a relentless pursuit.”

With a fresh outlook, Adam touched upon his renewed focus and determination, noting the positive influence Gordon exerted over his attitude towards his sport. He concluded: “So, when I see that, I’m like, ‘Yeah, why can’t I work like this? Why can’t I do this every single day? Why do I have to be so emotionally engaged with things?'”. Adam and Holly, who started dating in May 2023, chose to confirm their romance to the public one month later in June. Fast forward to December of the same year, the pair solidified their commitment by getting matching tattoos. The Olympic swimmer, who secured his spot at the Paris games after achieving a personal best in the British 100m men’s breaststroke, seems to be on good terms with his girlfriend’s dad. The pair shared a light-hearted exchange when the celebrity chef playfully teased him during a pre-Olympics chat.

Gordon humorously pressed Adam about his future plans after the competition, to which the athlete responded: “Who knows? You’re smiling, I’m not going to give you the pleasure. I’m not going to do it. You’re trapping me.” Living up to his reputation, the Hell’s Kitchen star fired back with a characteristically cheeky: “You’re full of s**t! You are definitely not retiring. Absolutely, definitely not retiring.” Before wishing him luck he quipped: “Very best of luck. Don’t f*** this up.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
