Privacy Notice Soap legend Ryan Moloney has finally opened up about his emotional departure from Neighbours after an epic 30-year stint. The actor, who became a household name playing Jarrod ‘Toadie’ Rebecchi since he was just a teen, revealed on Good Morning Britain that it’s time to bid farewell to his beloved character, saying he “wanted to leave”. Ryan reflected on how the character has shaped his life over the past three decades while chatting with GMB hosts Richard Madeley and Charlotte Hawkins about the show’s upcoming Death in the Outback special week. He also shared insights into his future plans, confessing that he’s not overly keen on continuing his acting career and would rather embrace life on a farm. During the ITV morning show, Charlotte expressed her concerns about the ominous title of the special week, saying: “I’m slightly worried that this is called Death in the Outback, which seems to suggest that your departure could be a terminal one.” However, Ryan seemed unfazed by the prospect, responding: “Yeah, good huh? It’s a soap, so we’ve got to do these things, you know? I’m pretty excited I’m excited about the next adventures. I’ve had a great time on Neighbours and I’ve learnt a lot, and there’s a lot of skills that I’ve got now, so I’m very much looking forward to what else is going to happen,” reports the Express.

He went on to add: “It’s been my life, really. I started when I was 15, so I’ve grown up on the show and me personally I’ve gotten married, had kids, built farms, learnt lots of other bits and pieces. It’s very much my life. I’ve spent more time on Neighbours than I have off.” Ryan discussed the “schizophrenic” blend of his personality with Toadie’s character, revealing how his own identity started to merge with his on-screen persona. He also shared an update on his acting career, saying: “I’m really just leaving the slate open for whatever. I’m not particularly attached to continuing on. I’ve been acting for over 30 years now, if that continues then fantastic. Directing has really got my synapses firing again, so hopefully that happens.”

“But I’m actually really quite happy building farm fences and playing with animals and spending time with the kids. So if I never get employed and I do that again, then happy days!” Richard responded with a supportive “That’s a good place to be!” while Charlotte chimed in with a heartfelt “Good for you!” Despite his contentment, Ryan confessed earlier this year that departing wasn’t entirely his decision, admitting: “I’ve been wanting to leave for quite a long time, but Neighbours is one of those jobs that you work with awesome people. “You get paid really well. And if you had a mate who had one of these jobs, you’d be saying, ‘oh, mate, what are you doing?’ You’ve got to stay there. See it out for as long as you can.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
