According to Deadline, original stars Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton are set to reprise their roles as Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer, but this time the pair will don the hats of executive producers. Sources told the publication that the sequel series is currently in development, with writer and executive producer Becky Hartman and Warner Bros TV coming on board the Netflix project. Jensen Ackles and Danneel Ackles will also executive produce the project through their Chaos Machine banner with Danneel also being in talks to return as her character Rachel Scott. Hilarie and Sophia alluded to the reboot rumours as Hilarie shared a picture with her former co-stars and teased a reunion.

She penned: “What if you really can go back home? If there’s an opportunity to team with brilliant creatives and build a space where all our friends can show off their talents? Own our history? Reclaim our turf? Honor our fans? “Sign us up. There’s only one Tree Hill, after all. And you — the #OTHfam — have shown us that it’s not just an idea. It really is the place where “everything’s better and everything’s safe.” If the show does get greenlit to go ahead, stars including James Lafferty (Nathan Scott) and Bethany Joy Lenz (Haley James Scott) will reportedly be approached to return. The original series is currently available to stream on ITVX and the reboot will follow Brooke and Peyton as they deal with the challenges of being parents to teenagers, who are going through the same dramas they did back in the day. One character who may not come back is Lucas Scott, as according to the aforementioned publication, actor Chad Michael Murray has no interest in returning to the show that made him a household name.

One Tree Hill aired on The WB Television Network from 2003 to 2006 before moving on to The CW for the next six years. It was created by Mark Schwahn, who was also a showrunner and executive produced all nine seasons.
