Privacy NoticeIf you’re looking to disconnect from city life and unwind in the countryside then look no further. In the heart of Somerset, nearby popular tourist spots Bath and Wells, is luxury glamping experience Hadspen Glamping, with three idyllic safari-style canvas lodges set on a five-acre field surrounded by livestock. WiFi-free and powered by solar and wood burners instead of mains gas and electricity, Hadspen offers a welcome escape without scrimping on comfort. The lodges at Hadspen Glamping Each lodge is uniquely decorated and super-homely. We stayed in Horsecombe Lodge, which had a fully equipped kitchen, spacious living room with wood burner, ensuite shower room, cosy double bedroom and a separate bedroom with a bunk bed for kids; all the excitement of camping but with far more comforts and amenities.

There are lots of luxury touches throughout the lodge, such as a welcome hamper that included an array of locally sourced food and drink. Hadspen have provided all the amenities you could ask for, and they;re all locally sourced and eco-friendly. There are ample outdoor spaces and seating where we sat with a cup of coffee in the morning listening to the birds, and enjoyed the views in the evening as we cooked pizzas on the barbecue and toasted marshmallows. After dinner we would relax on the veranda and watch the sunset below the hills, before jumping into our own private wood-fired hot tub under the stars. There were lots of board games and blankets provided, perfect for when it got a bit chilly outside, while the wood burner soon warmed up the tent inside.

The local area We could have quite easily stayed at the tent site every day but we did want to explore the local surroundings, and we’re very glad we did. We spent one morning visiting some of the local farm shops, including Durslade Farm Shop in Bruton, where we picked up some cider made from Somerset apples handpicked from their own orchards, located under King Alfred’s Tower. We also added some local farm shop jam, honey and summer honeycomb to our baskets. From here we took a 15 minute walk to Bruton town where we enjoyed a walk along the river to the high street before having lunch at At the Chapel, a restored 18th century chapel that’s now a restaurant and bakery. Bruton is a lovely place to visit, with shops, cafés and plenty of history. We also popped into another farm shop on the way back, Kimbers’ Farm – here they also have a big antique shop, which is definitely worth a visit. If you don’t fancy driving we recommend visiting The Newt in Somerset, a country estate with magnificent woodland and gardens just an eight minute walk from the Hadspen glamping site. Here we visited the Romanesque villa in the grounds, explored The Story of Gardening exhibition and grabbed a gelato while walking through the stunning woodland. Hadspen Glamping makes the perfect family getaway or couples’ retreat. There’s enough space in between the lodges to give lots of privacy, but also it would be a great option if you were going away with friends or family and wanted to book all three tents, to enjoy the whole site together. It was a much needed switch off from our busy lives in London. How much does it cost to stay at Hadspen Glamping? Lodges at Hadspen Glamping start from £180 per night.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
