Privacy NoticeJanis Levy is an actress who gained recognition in the late 1980s for her role in a Cadbury Flake television advert. She became known as one of the iconic “Flake girls” – and had a role in the chocolate campaign for longer than any other actress. The confectioner’s ads were known for exuding a sense of sensuality and indulgence. They often starred glamorous stars, who would do activities like sitting in the bath tub while popping chocolate into their mouth. Janis’ most famous advert involved her strolling through a sunflower field and hopping onto a horse-drawn caravan. It became one of the defining adverts of the 80s – and launched her showbiz career to new heights.

The advert was the longest-running Flake commercial of all time

After getting her big break at just 17, Janis moved to LA. She met huge names like Sylvester Stallone and Joan Collins, as well as bagging herself more roles. She scooped jobs on a further 50 adverts – promoting everything from Fairy Liquid to Toblerone, and even Asda and TSB. But Janis wasn’t destined to remain in show-business forever. In fact, she had a very different passion in life. Janis, who was scouted due to her beautifully long locks, has hair styling in her blood. Her dad trained to be a hairdresser in Paris and then opened his own salon in East London. Janis’ dad has sadly passed away, but she has taken up the mantle.

She runs a business called Hair Development, which has won awards and specialises in hair loss solutions. And it looks like she’s delighted with her profession! She explained: “I had the most wonderful time in LA, but I came home when I had my daughter. LA is fabulous – it’s exhilarating, but I wanted to come home – and that’s when I turned my back on the career.” Speaking about her passion for running a salon, she added: “It’s a very sensitive subject – you look after so many people. It makes a really big difference to how they look and how they feel. “It’s a wonderful transformation to see. It’s incredible to make people look and feel better too. I’m very proud of what we do. It’s such an expert business. “For many, many years I was based in front of the camera and being made to look glamorous. It’s a long way now from LA – from the make-up and going to the gym every day. You look after number one in LA. We are helping so many people.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
