Privacy NoticeZara and Mike Tindall are marking their 13th wedding anniversary today (Tuesday, 30 July). From a vodka fountain to the best man arriving with a black eye, their nuptials can only be described as a wonderfully unique royal wedding. On this day, 13 years ago, the daughter of Anne, Princess Royal and rugby legend Mike tied the knot during a romantic ceremony in Scotland surrounded by members of the Royal Family and close pals. The couple, who met during England’s Rugby World Cup campaign in Australia in 2003, said ‘I do’ just three months after the dazzling wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton that was watched by 36 million people.

Zara and Mike opted for a more intimate ceremony. However, their reception at the Queen’s official Scottish residence of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, was famously energetic, embodying their spirited and fun-loving nature, reports the Express. This royal duo had a vision to make their wedding unique, and they certainly achieved it. Here are some hidden gems you might not know… Vodka fountains and shots

Zara and Mike decided to ditch the traditional chocolate fountain at their wedding, opting for a more unconventional choice: a flowing vodka fountain! Sources say that around half past ten, the party hit full swing with guests grabbing shot glasses and diving into the spirit (quite literally!) to toast the happy couple. A palace insider revealed at the time: “It was just a family knees-up. Your archetypal wedding, really. Except with a lot of royals and rugby players. “And a lot of drinking. In fact make that a hell of a lot of drinking.” ‘Something blue’ with a twist

It’s a well-known wedding tradition to have ‘something blue’ on your big day, with Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton keeping a royal tradition of having snippets of blue fabric sewn into their gowns. However, Zara took a twist on ‘something blue’ and reaveled to The Times that instead, she opted for an “electric blue” pedicure. Even though her toes weren’t visible to the world or her wedding guests, this daring choice was quite a statement, as vibrant nail polish isn’t usually sported by members of the Royal Family. Best man’s black eye

Mike asked fellow rugby player Iain Balshaw to be his best man for the nuptials. However he raised eyebrows when he turned up to the wedding with a black eye and cuts, but not from a rugby match. Instead, he got them in a moped accident in France just a week before the big day. Despite these unconventional elements, it seems Zara and Mike were aiming for a more low-key affair than previous royal weddings. Nikita Thorne, the Head of Strategy at wedding directory Guides For Brides, shared: “Zara and Mike Tindall’s wedding was a refreshing departure from traditional Royal nuptials. While not official members of the Royal family, their wedding beautifully reflected their personalities and relationship. “From vodka shots to Zara’s family ties with Scotland, the celebrations helped offer a unique insight into their relationship and individual personalities.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
