Privacy NoticeWe all know someone that douses everything in ketchup. They’ll use it as a pasta sauce or as soup for their potatoes to float in. They dip their vegetables in it and squirt it on top of bread. And even after someone has slaved away for hours to create a dish full of nuanced tastes they squeeze out the red sauce and cover it to mask the flavour with tomatoey goodness.

Essentially ketchup is their one true love, which means come Valentines Day if you want to woo these saucey nutters we may have just the thing. Heinz have teamed up with London store Fortnum & Mason to create Tomato Ketchup Truffles, which are creamy, chocolatey balls filled with a blonde chocolate ganache laced with everyone’s favourite condiment. The nine chocolates come in an adorable heart shaped box adorned with ornate gold decoration. Heinz describe the novelty treats as “the bright and tangy tomato flavour from the ketchup bursts through the silky creamy rich ganache with a sweet finish.”

Currently they can be purchased at Fortum & Mason which has stores in Piccadilly, St. Pancras, The Royal Exchange and Heathrow Terminal 5. However if you are not London-based that is no reason to feel left behind because the experimental offering is also on sale through the company’s website and costs £19.95. This collaboration is part of a long-standing relationship between Fortnum & Mason and Heinz and will see them celebrating a romance lasting over 130 years. In 1886 Henry J Heinz came over the pond from the US to the UK with five cases of Heinz products to present to the finest London stores. His first stop was of course Fortnum’s – and after tasting the samples, the grocery buyer pronounced, “I think, Mr Heinz, we’ll take the lot!”, giving the UK its first ever taste of that familiar Heinz flavour.

Alexandra Bayet, Sauces Marketing Manager, at Heinz said: “The Heinz and Fortnum & Mason relationship goes way back; they were our first UK stockist back in 1886, together we celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with special edition Heinz Beanz in 2012, and last year Fortnum and Mason helped us celebrate our big 150th birthday with the launch of Ketchup Caviar. “And they also happen to be some of the best master chocolatiers around. So, it only makes sense that we celebrate the most romantic day of the year together with one of the most prestigious Valentine’s Day pairings.” ‘Ketchup and chocolate are two of the nation’s most loved foods, and we felt that it was only right that on the international day of love we combine these two ingredients, resulting in mouth-watering truffles that are set to delight ketchup and chocolate lovers across the country.’

Meanwhile Sophie Young, Confectionery Buyer at Fortnum & Mason, said: “During the recipe development process, our chocolatiers considered the flavour profiles of both cocoa and the much-loved Heinz Tomato Ketchup, playing tasting elements off each other to balance both creaminess and tanginess. “They have developed something truly and unexpectedly delicious, showcasing Fortnum’s ability to create unique and exciting pairings that will capture the attention of ketchup enthusiasts and satisfy even the most sophisticated of palates.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
