Privacy Notice Cast Away star Phillip Schofield has shared photos of his mum Pat as a tribute to her following her death earlier this week. The former This Morning host announced her passing on Monday 14 October, and later shared touching photos of her, including some from recent holidays together, and a trip to Blackpool for the pair featuring the famous tower in the background. Phillip also shared a photo of Pat being strapped into a frame attached to the wings of a plane, proudly noting that she was “one of the oldest ladies to wing walk.” Phillip announced her death at the age of 88 by writing: “Today at 3pm and after a heartbreaking weekend, my magnificent mum decided it was time to go to her beloved Brian. Over three days we held her, loved her, hugged her and said everything that was needed to be said. She was calm, peaceful, beautiful and dignified. I will forever be proud and privileged that she was my mum.”

He added: “Our eternal thanks to the paramedics, Treliske A&E and Critical Care teams who have been, in the past and this weekend, my mum’s and our angels. You love and care has been our saviour.” He ended the post with the words: “I love you mum, forever.” While a cause of death for his mum has not been released, Phillip previously revealed that both his mother and his brother, from whom he is estranged, were diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. In a conversation with Health Awareness, he said: “My brother and mother are both Type 1 diabetics and have been for the last 25 years, so it is something that as a family we are very used to Sign up to OK!’s TV newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

“If either of them have a hypo (a Hypoglycaemic episode which occurs when blood glucose levels drop, usually below 4 mmol/L), we can recognise the signs and we know what to do. My mum goes particularly bonkers when she goes low, so when she starts talking nonsense we know what’s happening.” He went on to say: “My brother was first to be diagnosed and he had an unquenchable thirst for fizzy drink, which was very unlike him. That continued for a few days, he was acting completely out of character. So we took him to the doctors and he was very quickly diagnosed. Then six months later my mum was diagnosed in the same way.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
