Privacy NoticeTonight’s episode of The Great British Bake Off is set to be one of the most jaw-dropping in its 15-year run, with biscuit week proving too much for three contestants. In a series of shocking moments, one baker decides to leave the show, another loses consciousness, and a third takes a dramatic fall. As the last baker goes down during the showstopper judging, Paul Hollywood is left stunned, exclaiming: “What the hell is going on? ” Meanwhile, Prue Leith offers a gentler response, checking on the fallen contestant with a concerned “Are you all right?” The remaining bakers, who’ve been hard at work crafting edible puppet theatres for four hours, are visibly disturbed but can’t help laughing at the chaos, as Andy comments: “They’re dropping like bloody flies!”.

Illyin, a 31 year old midwife who impressed with her cinnamon roll loaf last week, earning a Hollywood handshake within the first 20 minutes of cake week, is the one who faints. As she begins to feel faint, another baker calls out urgently: “Got a medic?” A medic quickly arrives on scene, and Illyin is placed in the recovery position while she murmurs: “I just feel dizzy”, reports the Mirror. Her fainting spell follows a less successful signature challenge this week, after last week’s triumph. Tonight (1 October), she finds the feedback on her Viennese sandwiches disheartening, calling it “gutting” and acknowledging: “I knew biscuits were a problem.” Illiyin, still feeling “woozy” had to exit the tent for more medical care and wasn’t there for the critique of her showstopper.
