Privacy NoticeA Good Morning Britain star has been taken to hospital, telling fans he was facing a “nightmare” after being rushed in to see doctors late last night. Iain Dale, a popular commentator on the ITV show as well as a host in his own right on radio station LBC, explained that he had been kept waiting more than three hours in A&E. He explained to his listeners why he wouldn’t be on the radio last night by sharing a picture from the waiting room of the A&E wing of a hospital, writing: “The reason I’m not presenting my show this evening…”

The 62-year-old wrote: “Three and a half hours in A&E and it looks like a gall bladder issue. They’re running tests. Might have to come back tomorrow.” He later updated fans writing: “Firstly, thanks for all the good wishes. I went to A&E last night at 9pm with acute pain on the right hand side of my chest. “I am now in intensive care awaiting an operation to remove my gall bladder. Not ideal. In fact, it’s a nightmare. NHS care at Tunbridge Wells hospital is so far outstanding.” It’s not the first time GMB star Iain has ended up in hospital. Last year he posted from St Thomas’ in London after tripping at the top of an escalator while travelling on the Tube. The star recently stood down from his broadcasting duties to stand as a Tory MP, saying: “‘The reason I’m doing it is because it is an itch I need to scratch, even at the ripe old age of 61.

“I just thought, whatever the result of this election, and we all know what the polls say, I think I could play a bit of a role in not just helping the Conservative Party through some fairly traumatic and difficult times, but actually rebuilding it. “Sensible people, which I like to think I am one, need to come to the aid of the party in times of difficulty.” However, he later quit after a clip from a podcast emerged in which he said he “never liked” Tunbridge Wells – where he was standing – adding that “I’d quite happily live somewhere else”. Iain announced he was withdrawing, saying: “I instantly recognised the problems with that” adding: “There is a context to [the comments] but nobody’s interested in context or nuance in these situations.” He admitted: “I thought to myself, well, if they’ve got this on day one, I mean, I’ve done thousands of hours on LBC over the last 15 years, I’ve done hundreds of hours in podcasts… what if they had got something else that I have said?” Liberal Democrat Mike Martin won the Tunbridge Wells seat, taking over from Conservative politician Greg Clark.
