Privacy Notice Gogglebox favourites Giles Wood and Mary Killen confessed that the show ‘saved their marriage’. The stars have appeared on the Channel 4 series since 2015 and seem to be a very tight knit couple, but the pair have previously confessed that it hasn’t always been that way, but that they have Gogglebox to thank for changing that. Talking to the Daily Mail, Giles said: “Working together on Gogglebox – watching telly at the same time – meant Mary and I suddenly no longer lived like two intimate strangers, Mary working from 6am till 8pm, then falling asleep slightly drunk at 9pm; me gardening from 1pm till 3.30pm, when I have lunch, and then going to bed at two in the morning after watching vintage horror films. It has definitely saved our marriage.”

Mary added: “While we wait for each Gogglebox programme to begin, we end up chatting to each other, amounting to about three hours a week in total. Some of our chatter eventually gets broadcast and we have been amazed to hear from Giles’s sister, who monitors Twitter, that people have found something we said funny.” She continued: “Gradually we realised we were enjoying the Gogglebox preambles – indeed they became an essential cog in the wheels of our marriage because we had to take it in turns to speak. And then we realised that we had a huge amount in common.”

Recently, Mary, who hails from Northern Ireland, has received questions from viewers asking where her accent has gone. Giles asked her on behalf of fans, “What happened to your Irish accent?”. Mary wasn’t sure what Giles meant and he carried on as if she was “teased” about her accent when she first came to London, to which she sadly revealed that she was and that she couldn’t make any “conversation”. Mary and Giles aren’t the only couple who have revealed tidbits of their personal lives on Gogglebox. Star of the show, Izzi Warner, who sits alongside her sister, Ellie, revealed in the latest episode (Friday 11 October), that she and her partner of 10 years have parted ways.
