Privacy NoticeGood Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway has opened up about a bittersweet occasion, as her daughter approaches a significant milestone amid the absence of her late husband Derek Draper. The television presenter, aged 57, has bravely faced the loss of Derek, who tragically died in January after a prolonged struggle with health issues caused by Covid-19. The pair are parents to two children, Darcey and Billy, aged 14. With A-Level results day looming, their firstborn, Darcey, who is 18, is on the cusp of discovering her academic fate. In Tuesday’s segment of GMB, which saw Kate share presenting responsibilities with Ed Balls, the emphasis was on the nail-biting wait for exam outcomes across the nation. Broadcast live from Fife in Scotland, ITV correspondent Juliet Dunlop spotlighted the anticipation felt by students awaiting their grades, as reported by The Mirror.

Reflecting on her own experiences in the studio, Kate acknowledged the mixed emotions tied to the end of school life, musing: “I don’t know about you but I remember not only it being nail-biting but also quite sad because depending on if you are doing O-Levels or A-Levels, you will be saying goodbye to friends going to different uni.” Looking ahead with optimism, Kate shared her personal connection to the anxious wait, divulging: “That will be happening to a lot of people waiting for GCSE and A Levels. Next week I have a daughter waiting to find out just how badly she’s done in her exams but positive thinking is what we are going to have.” This heartfelt disclosure follows Kate’s recent break from the show, prompted by her father’s illness, marking a challenging period for the much-loved TV host. While she was off, her fellow presenters Rob Rinder, Charlotte Hawkins, Ranvir Singh, and Ed, 57, filled in for the majority of the week.

Kate had previously announced her return to the show in a heartfelt Instagram post last week. The presenter wrote: “Hi all – sorry I disappeared from here when my Dad collapsed and rushed to hospital 2 weeks ago while having a holiday with my Mum at my brother’s. It was very scary but am so pleased that he is now stable and even recovering a bit in hospital – we have so much to be grateful for, but are taking it a day at a time. “Huge thanks to the incredible NHS staff for their endless kindness and the heart they put into the care of all their patients which has meant so much to my mum and all our family. Huge thanks too to my incredible friends @itv and @smoothradio particularly @ranvirtv @charlottehawkins1 @tinahobleyofficial @myleeneklass for yet again changing their plans to cover for me so I could put my family first.” The ITV presenter wrapped up by saying: “Luckily I also had some weeks’ leave booked so I have been able to support my Mum and Brother and be with my Dad while also giving Darcey and Billy some summer fun on their school holidays which of course they really need. Am hoping to be back on @gmb and @smoothradio on Monday so can update more than but for now sending love to you all #love #hope #friendshipday.” (sic) Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
