Privacy Notice On Wednesday’s instalment of Good Morning Britain, hosts Kate Garraway and Ed Balls spoke to former Strictly Come Dancing pro, Erin Boag. During their interview, the discussion quickly moved onto the ongoing drama surrounding the long-running BBC show. Recently, the programme announced there will now be chaperones during rehearsals after a string of complaints that have come to light. Giving his thoughts on the situation, Ed, who once competed in the show, said: “We were alone a good half the time. “Isn’t it the case, if you get someone like me or Richard [Arnold], you need your partner to be tough as that’s the only way you learn.

“When you get it wrong you have to be motivated. It feels as though, it’s a couple of instances, we don’t know how many, but a small number, they’ve crossed a line. “It’s gone from being tough to being unsupportive and even worse, that’s the problem, but for us, that never happened.” The former professional told the presenters that in any sport, the physical side is the easy part, it’s the mental side that’s tough. She added: “You are exhausted, you are pushed beyond your limits. We have a certain amount of hours, and days, to get ready to go back every week with a different dance in front of a nation, in front of millions of people.

“So, everybody is under pressure, that sort of makes the show. If it was easy, it’s not great viewing, is it? “So there is that added pressure and it is that mental side of things, we’re not just their partners, we’re sort of their counsellors. Over the past few weeks, the BBC show has come under fire as last year’s contestant Amanda Abbington has made strong allegations against her former partner on the show Giovanni Pernice. The actress has claimed she felt a sense of bullying happening during their rehearsals together, although Giovanni has strongly denied the allegations made against him.

Another Strictly star who has faced backlash is Graziano Di Prima, who was axed from the show after footage of his time with star Zara McDermott was seen by bosses. Currently, the line-up for the new series, which airs in autumn, is starting to be revealed. So far, the likes of Chris McCausland, JB Gill, Wynne Evans, Toyah Willcox and Dr Punam Krishan have been confirmed. Tasha Ghouri and Pete Wicks are also taking to the dancefloor as they were announced on the radio on Wednesday morning.
